Katie W. Deese

CHESTERFIELD – Mrs. Katie W. Deese, age 89, entered into rest on Friday, July 9, 2021 with her family by her side. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 11, 2021 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor Fred McDaniel and Brent Taylor with burial following in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. The family greeted friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home.

In keeping with Mrs. Katie’s wishes, the family encouraged everyone in attendance to wear her favorite color, RED!

Mrs. Deese was born November 29, 1931 in Chesterfield County, SC a daughter of the late Sam and Rosie Ratliff Watson. She was a retired employee of James Fabrics and a former employee of Sacony. She also worked alongside her husband for many years at Deese Grocery. Katie was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church where she was a beloved member of the choir. She enjoyed shopping, traveling with her church group and cousins, and decorating her home and yard for each holiday.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Deese was also preceded in death by her husband, Maxie C. “Teat” Deese; sons, James C. Deese and Kenny M. Deese; daughter, Patsy D. Rollins; grandson, Scott Deese; brother, Grover Watson; sister, Sara Watson Jones; son-in-law, Hollis Hurst, Jr.; and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Survivors include her daughter, Joyce D. Hurst; grandchildren, Chris Deese, Angela (Gregg) Demby, Chasity (Michael) Lisenby, Lisa (Scott) Herrington, Brandy Rollins, and Anthony (Crystal) Rollins; great grandchildren, Taylor Demby, Holli Demby, Colt Oliver, Michaela Lisenby, Kingsley Herrington, Makenxie Rollins, Kaden Herrington, Abram Rollins, and Camdyn Rollins; sister-in-law, Dot (Tommy) Jordan; numerous nieces and nephews; and special family members of the heart, Alice Deese, Randy (Angie) Rollins, and Larry (Cheryl) Jones.

On behalf of the Deese family, a special thank you is offered for Mrs. Katie’s extended family, the staff and residency of Cheraw Healthcare, for their love, support, and care through the years.

James Thomas ‘J.T.’ Dutton Sr.

MT. CROGHAN – Mr. James Thomas “J.T.” Dutton, Sr., age 79, entered into rest on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at his home. Funeral services were held at 5:00 PM Saturday, July 10, 2021 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor Ronald Thurman and Brent Taylor with burial following in the White Oak Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Masonic Rites were rendered by the Ruby Masonic Lodge #314. The family greeted friends from 4:00 – 5:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Dutton was born September 19, 1941 in Ruby, SC a son of the late Woodrow Wilson and Lucy Katie Rivers Dutton. He was a retired employee of Duff-Norton and the former owner and operator of Melissa’s Upholstery. J.T. was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church and Ruby Masonic Lodge #314, where he was a Past Master. He enjoyed working in his garden, watching old westerns and NASCAR, and talking to anyone he came in contact with.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dutton was also preceded in death by his siblings, Kathy Faulkenberry, Hugh Dutton, Ronnie Dutton, and Harry Dutton.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Linda H. Dutton of the home; son, James T. (Jeanette) Dutton, Jr. of Jefferson, SC; daughters, Hilda D. (Willy) Teal of Southport, NC, and Melissa D. (Jonathan) White of Mt. Croghan, SC; grandchildren, Megan Teal, Cyndee Dutton, Logan Moore, and Josie Dutton; great grandchildren, Alaina Porter, and Chloe Cantrell; siblings, Mitchell W. (Cynthia) Dutton of Wadesboro, NC, Graylon (Juanita) Dutton of Cheraw, SC, Irma Rivers of Jefferson, SC, and Barbara McClamrock of Monroe, NC; sisters-in-law, Dean Dutton, and Pat Dutton both of Chesterfield, SC, and Betty Morris of Ruby, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of special friends.
