Iris Ratliff Deese
RUBY – Mrs. Iris Ratliff Deese, age 78, entered into rest on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services were held at 5:00 PM Wednesday, July 28, 2021 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor Hank Griffin and Brent Taylor with burial following in the Clanton Plains Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Deese was born November 13, 1942 in Ruby, SC a daughter of the late Duncan L. and Ruth Lucille Gulledge Ratliff. She was a retired supervisor with Bo-Buck Mills with over 50 years of service. Iris was a life-long member of Clanton Plains Baptist Church where she served as former Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Deese was known as the “heart of her family,” who loved her grandchildren very much and was a caretaker for all of them. She enjoyed reading, selling Avon, watching westerns, and playing Sudoku puzzles.
In addition to her parents, Iris was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Lee Deese; daughter, Teresa Lynn Gulledge; grandson, Philip Gulledge; great granddaughter, Bailey Hodge; brother, Harry Dean Ratliff, Sr.; sister, Nell R. Wilkerson; nieces, Wendy W. Sellers, Cindy Ratliff, and Wanda W. Morgan; nephews, Brent Ratliff, Billy Ratliff, C.J. Parker, and Chris Ratliff.
Survivors include her children, Stewart (Cindy) Gibson of Chesterfield, SC; Rena Albright, and Randall (Angie) Gibson both of Ruby, SC; grandchildren, Sandi Gulledge, Bridget (Jr.) Hodge, Brian Gibson, Brandy (Joe) Deese, Jesse (Robin) Gilmore, Christie (Josh) Shaw, Brooke (Josh) Howard, Harleigh Payne, and Madason Gibson; 13 great grandchildren and 1 soon be arriving; brother, Billy Gene (Vickie) Ratliff of Ruby, SC; sisters, Joyce Ann Ratliff Mills of Ruby, SC, and Janice Ratliff Parker of Chesterfield, SC; sisters-in-law, Dot (Tommy) Jordan, and Myrtle Ratliff; and her beloved dog, “Georgia.”

Jerry Wayne Dowdy
CLIO – Mr. Jerry Wayne Dowdy, 67, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Monday, July 26, 2021. Born, January 8, 1954 in Bennettsville, SC he was a son of the late Marvin Larue Dowdy and the late Jenny Lafaye Collins. Jerry served his country proudly in the South Carolina National Guard, retiring after many years of service. During his time in the Guard, he served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and was known by his fellow Guardsmen as “Outlaw 50”. Jerry also was a Deputy with the Marlboro County Sherriff’s Department. Affectionately known as “Pa” by his grandkids, Jerry loved spending time with his family and friends, as well as playing golf, hunting, fishing, and boat rides on the Pee Dee River. His motto was “Good Friends and Good Times”.
Along with his parents, listed above, Mr. Dowdy was preceded in death by a brother, Robin Dowdy.
Jerry leaves behind to cherish his memory, his son, Travis Dowdy (Mica) of Bennettsville, SC; a daughter, Shannon Blackwell (Paul Blackwell, III) of Cheraw, SC; brothers, Bruce Dowdy of Bennettsville, SC and David Dowdy (Lynne) of Bennettsville, SC; grandchildren, Holden Dowdy, Parker Dowdy, Vivianne Blackwell, and Beckett Blackwell; and many friends that he considered and loved like family.
A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Kiser Funeral Home. The family received friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. just prior to the service at the funeral home.

Amanda Leigh Gregory
JEFFERSON – Miss Amanda Leigh Gregory, age 50, entered into the arms of her Savior on Sunday evening, July 25, 2021 and is now walking with Jesus. A public visitation for family and friends was held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Bethel Baptist Church and other times at the home of her sister, Katrina Manus, 1409 Goldmine Rd, Monroe, NC 28110.
The funeral services were private with burial following in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
On October 30, 1970 God gave a special gift to Rev. Jimmy “Pete” and Dianne “Anne” Steen Gregory by the name of Amanda Leigh Gregory. She was truly the light of her family and a blessing to them. Amanda loved to color and decorate velvet art and create keepsakes with latch hooking. She enjoyed watching cartoons and her favorite was Scooby Doo. She also enjoyed watching movies and any with Steven Seagal, Chuck Norris, or Jim Carey were her favorite picks. To say she was an Elvis Pressley fan is quite the understatement!
A young lady with a selfless and giving heart, Amanda was always wanting to buy for others. She would never miss sending a card for anyone’s birthday, anniversary, or special date. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she looked forward to adding to her Belkie Bear collection each year. The greatest experience of her life was when she accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized in 1983.
Those left to cherish her precious memory are her parents, Rev. Jimmy “Pete” and Anne Gregory of Jefferson, SC; sister, Katrina (Michael) Manus of Monroe, NC; brother, Jimmy (Tracy) Gregory of Jefferson, SC; nieces and nephews, Joseph Ryne Manus, Ashleigh Lauren (Shea) Rollins, Tristan Andrew Gregory, Alston Blayne Gregory, and Aiden Skyler Gregory; great nieces, Hayden Leigh Rollins, and Lainey Scott Rollins; 1 great nephew to soon be arriving; caregiver and special friend, Renee Wilson; and special “aunt,” Donna (Larry) Fulton.

Agnes J. Hall
CHERAW – Agnes J. Hall, 93, died Monday, July 26, 2021. Born in Hartsville, SC November 26, 1927 she was the daughter of the late William and Catherine Jones. She attended Cheraw Family Worship, Cheraw, SC and had been a member and Sunday School teacher at Edwards Chapel in Society Hill, SC. She was retired from
Stanley/Black & Decker. Ms. Hall loved being with her family, reading her bible,
and always thought of others. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-
grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She also enjoyed visiting with home-
bound friends and church members. Her motto was love God first and be kind to
others.
Agnes and Bogan married in 1944 while he was enlisted in the US Army. They
enjoyed 42 years of marriage until his death in 1986.
She is survived by her eight children; sons Jim (Linda) Hall, of Society Hill, SC,
Henry Hall, of Lydia, SC, Freddy (Kay) Hall, of Byrdtown, SC, Larry Hall, of
Hartsville, SC, and Michael (Michelle) Hall, of Hartsville, SC, daughters Mary
Jordan, of Cheraw, SC, Susan (Mickey) Caulder, of Florence, SC, Diane (Paul)
Miller, of Florence, SC, a brother, Gene (Miriam) Jones, of Hartsville, SC, a sister-
in-law, Juanita Jones of Hartsville, SC , twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-
grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bogan Hall, parents listed above, and a brother, James Jones.
The family received friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 28,
2021, at Edwards Chapel, 5443 Patrick Society Hill Road, Society Hill, SC 29584.
A funeral service was held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at Edwards Chapel, 5443 Patrick Society Hill Road, Society Hill, SC 29584. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

James R. ‘Jim’ Price
CHESTERFIELD – Mr. James R. “Jim” Price, age 68, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 28, 2021. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Zoar United Methodist Church by Pastor Billy Jack Johnson with burial following in the church cemetery. The family greeted friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.
Mr. Price was born July 20, 1953 in Anson County, NC a son of the late Jack and Elizabeth Davis Price. He was retired employee of Trans South with over 25 years of service in consumer finance. He was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church and Green River Country Club. He was very proud to be a second-generation Mason. A talented musician who enjoyed all genres of music, Jim enjoyed playing the guitar, piano, and singing. He also enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR, and playing golf.

MacFarlane of Monroe, NC; grandchildren, Killian Price, Jackson Price, Aidan Price, Cade MacFarlane, and Kyla MacFarlane; brother of the heart, Larry Mesecher; cousin of heart, Dee Davis; friends of the heart, Ralph Laney, Philip Martin, and Dean Carswell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gail Arlene Scanlan
CHERAW – Mrs. Gail Arlene Scanlan, 69, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2021. Born, August 10, 1951 in New Jersey she was a daughter of Edith May Mauser Ruess and the late Arbon D. Hughes. Gail was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter.
Along with her father, listed above, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gary Hughes; and step-father, Leonard Ruess.
Gail leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, Kevin Scanlan (Devonna Lee) of Cheraw, SC; daughters, Kim O’Conner (Sean) of Boise, ID and Erin Cassidy of Cheraw, SC; her mother, Edith May Ruess of Lincroft, NJ; a brother, Greg Hughes (Ellen) of Lincroft, NJ; sisters, Gwen Hughes (Gene) of Weeki Wachee, FL, Kathy Hughes of Lincroft, NJ and Chris Ruess of Lincroft, NJ; seven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.
