Dorothy ‘Dot’ Chewning-McLeod
CHERAW – Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Chewning-McLeod, age 85, entered into rest on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at her home. Funeral services were held at 3 o’clock Sunday, September 26, 2021 from the chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Brent Taylor with burial following in the Lower Macedonia Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 2:00-3:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Chewning-McLeod was born August 7, 1936 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Lloyd Allen Brooks and Bessie Lee Previtt Crowley. Dot retired from INA Bearing as the Executive Assistant to the V.P. of Human Resources with 34 years of service. She was a member of Lower Macedonia Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher and church clerk. Dot enjoyed cooking, gardening, painting, working in her flowers, and fishing.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chewning-McLeod was also preceded in death by a husband, Joe Wilson Chewning; granddaughter, Brooke Marie Chewning, and her step-father, Allen Jackson Crowley.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Robert L. McLeod, of the home; children, Mike (Nancie) Chewning of Cheraw, SC, Freddie (Teresa) Chewning of Cheraw, SC, Tim (Shawna) Chewning of Blythewood, SC; step-son, Michael (Melody) McLeod, of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth (Nick) Wallace, Joseph (Kolleen) Chewning, Laci Anne Chewning, Alicia Taylor (Brent) Brazell, Timothy Austin (Melissa Broach) Chewning, Christopher Garett Chewning; step-grandchildren, William Sessoms, Boot (Kathy) Sessoms, Anna McGregor, and Corey McLeod; great-grandchildren, Harley, Hunter, Addison, Ian, and Chloe; sister, Cheryl Lee (Rev. William) Lewis of Hartsville, SC; in addition to numerous nieces and dear friends.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Mrs. Holly Rayfield with McLeod Hospice for her loving and compassionate care shown to Mrs. Dot and the family.

Barbara Ratliff Henry
CHERAW – Mrs. Barbara Ratliff Henry, 85, died on Monday, September 20, 2021. Born, July 20, 1936, in Chesterfield, SC, she was a daughter of the late Steele Hayward Ratliff and the late Lexie English Davis Ratliff. Barbara attended Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church and Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. She was full of life and was a postal worker in Charlotte, NC for many years and was a bookkeeper at H.W. Little Hardware Store in Wadesboro, NC. Barbara enjoyed meeting new people and making friends and loved her neighbors and friends in Cheraw and her friends in Anson County as well as her Co-workers with the Post Office. She also loved fishing in both fresh and saltwater as often as someone would take her, and enjoyed going to Cherokee, NC Gambling as well as watching NASCAR where her favorite drivers were Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
Along with her parents, listed above, she was preceded in death by her brother, Steele Hayward Ratliff, Jr.; and sisters, Peggy Assef, Ann Ratliff, and Helen Levister.
Barbara leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, Jim Henry and wife, Lesa of Pittsboro, NC; sisters, Marion Ratliff of Charlotte, NC, and Sue LePage of Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Luke Henry and Delaney Henry; a great-niece that was more like a grandchild, Sarah Hill; brothers-in-law, Leland Assef and Jeryl Levister; nieces and nephews, Paige Kelly, Lee Assef, Matt Levister, Brad Levister, John Whittelsey, and Brad Whittelsey; and multiple great-nieces and great-nephews.

James F. McCall
CHERAW – James F. McCall, 88, died Saturday, September 25, 2021. Born in Cheraw, SC he was a son of the late John A. and Elizabeth McLeod McCall. He was a US Army Veteran. He was a co-owner of McCall Sheet Metal/Heating and Air Conditioning.
Surviving are nieces, Roxane McCall Schuler and Martine McCall Loughlin both reside in Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents listed above, brothers, John McCall, Bobby McCall and a sister, Peggy Ann McCall Zirpoli.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 2, 2021 in Old St. David’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service.

Gloria Jean Hyer Taylor Mills
RUBY – Mrs. Gloria Jean Hyer Taylor Mills, age 72, entered into rest on Saturday, September 25, 2021. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Monday, September 27, 2021 at Ruby Church of God by Pastor Ronnie Poston and Pastor Donald Deal with burial following in the church cemetery. The family received friends on Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mills was born March 26, 1949 in Bennettsville, SC a daughter of the late Purtie Lee and Norma Louise Lyles Hyer Taylor. She was a dedicated homemaker and a former employee of Carolina Restaurant. Gloria was a faithful member of Ruby Church of God for over 50 years. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Mills was a loving foster parent for many years. She also enjoyed reading, working word puzzles, and watching Jimmy Swaggart.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mills was also preceded in death by a son, Timothy Ray Mills.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, James Leland Mills of the home; children, James Eric (Charles Cartrette) Mills of Lamar, SC, Elizabeth Ann (Michael) Davis of Ruby, SC, and Mark Anthony (Vanessa) Mills of Chesterfield, SC; grandchildren, Skylar Burch Mills, Emelia Rayne Davis, Timmy Mark Mills, Mikey Davis, Alyssa Mills, Kailyn Davis, Ethan Mills, and James Ryan Mills; siblings, Charles Allen (Mary) Hyer, Deborah Lee Taylor, Patricia Gail Wright all of Polkton, NC, William Douglas (Mary Lynn) Taylor of Wadesboro, NC, Richard Michael (Cathy) Taylor of Norwood, NC, and Barbara Ellen Taylor of Polkton, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
