Jackie Farrell Furr

CHERAW – Jackie Farrell Furr, 79, passed away on Sunday, March 6 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Jackie was born on April 29, 1942, the eldest son of Prentiss L. Furr and Virginia Huggins Furr Quick.  From humble beginnings, his perpetual smile and positive outlook led the way to a life of achievements and successes, including being named a two-time All-American running back at Gardner Webb, and building Furr Grading and Paving and Furr Facilities from the ground up. With his successes came a deep appreciation for the support and encouragement he received along the way. He demonstrated that appreciation by generously contributing time and resources to community programs and projects, never desiring recognition for his efforts. He loved his hometown of Cheraw and the folks he called friends. Though he possessed a strong work ethic, he also thought life was an adventure and meant to be enjoyed. Always up for a good time, he was known for his beautiful singing voice and smooth dance moves. He will be missed by those lucky enough to cross his path.

Mr. Furr was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Prentiss “Buddy” Furr, Jr. He is survived by his son and daughter in law Jeffrey and Sarra Furr and their son George Coker; his son and daughter-in-law Gregory and Mosako Furr and their children Lillie and Keira; his wife Susan and her children Elizabeth Trapp and Hal Trapp and granddaughter Madison Trapp; his sister Susie Quick Johnson (Fred); sister Elaine Quick Martin (Gus); brother Ronnie Quick (Debi); brother Tommy Quick (Mary); Richard Furr and Scott Furr; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held for family only. A celebration of life will be held for any and all who called Jackie “friend” on April 29, his 80th birthday. (The time and venue of the Celebration of life will be announced at a later date.)

William Jackson ‘Jack’ Wood

CHESTERFIELD – William Jackson Wood, known to everybody as Jack, died at his home in Chesterfield, South Carolina, Saturday March 5, 2022 at the age of 86. Graveside services were held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Chesterfield Cemetery. The family greeted friends after the service.

Jack was born July 27, 1935, in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. He was the son of the late H. J. Wood and Ophelia Sellers Wood. Jack was a marathon runner. He completed three marathons. Jack even qualified to run the Boston Marathon. Every day of his life, he ran the race of life, still wearing a pair of his many pairs of New Balance shoes. And that’s how he crossed the final finish line as he celebrated almost 35 years of sobriety.

More than anything, he loved his family! His wife, his children, and his grandchildren.

Jack Wood loved to learn and read. He was an insatiably curious character, about anything or everything. He always had a question about whatever was on his mind.

Jack especially liked working out at the Chesterfield Family YMCA; and during the pandemic, in the little homemade gym he built himself, behind his house.

He graduated from Chesterfield High School and served in the United States Army. He attended Wingate University when it was a college and graduated from Newberry College with a degree in history. He was the longtime personnel director at Chesterfield Webbing, who never minded taking phone calls at home, at any time, from anybody looking for a job at the mill.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela R. Wood of the home; children Bill Wood of New Orleans, LA, Sarah Wood (Pat) Murchison of Waxhaw, NC; brother, Gerald (Brenda) Wood of Teals Mill, SC: sister, Janet Wood (Charlie) Mewshaw of Fort Mill, SC; grandchildren, Ava Murchison of Nashville, TN and Jackson Murchison of Waxhaw, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 305 W. Main Street, Chesterfield, SC or to the Chesterfield Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 388, Chesterfield, SC 29709.

Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home (www.mrcfuneralhome.com) of Chesterfield, SC is serving the Wood family.
