Patricia Elaine Snipes Gilbert
CHESTERFIELD – Mrs. Patricia Elaine Snipes Gilbert, age 74, entered into rest on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at McLeod Health Cheraw with her family by her side. Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM Sunday, April 3, 2022 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor Chad Vick with burial following in the Douglas Mill Cemetery. The family greeted friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Sunday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gilbert was born September 28, 1947 in Chesterfield, SC, a daughter of the late Paul Edward and Patricia Douglas Snipes. She was a graduate of Chesterfield High School. Following graduation, she assisted her mother in caring for countless children at the Chesterfield Daycare Center. After her marriage to John Gilbert, she moved to Charlotte, NC where Patsy was employed with Charlotte Memorial Hospital. They later moved to Flagstaff, AZ, before returning home to Chesterfield, SC to be closer to family. Patsy was a lifelong member of Douglas Mill Baptist Church. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed several years serving ice cream to the children of the Chesterfield and Cheraw area from her ice cream truck, and was lovingly known as “the ice cream lady.”

In addition to her parents, Patsy was also preceded in death by her husband, John Gilbert, and brother-in-law, Donald Baker.

Survivors include her daughter: Tamara (Paul) Barefoot of Patrick, SC; son: Phillip (Wendy) Gilbert of North Myrtle Beach, SC; 3 sisters: Becky (Gene) Marsh, Cathy Baker (Jimmy Sellers), and Alice (Ricky) Todd all of Chesterfield, SC; 3 grandchildren: Savannah Barefoot, Sierra Barefoot, and Dylan Oliver; and nieces and nephews: Daniel (Erin) Marsh, Rachel (Shawn) Cheema, Richard (Susan) Todd, Bridget (Charlie) Hubbell, Sarah (Brandon) Downer, and Adrienne (Kedar) Brown.

The family would like to recognize the staff of Care with Integrity and McLeod Hospice, with a heartfelt thank you to her special caregivers, Michelle Miller, and Mary Coble.

Theodore Andy Kirby

SOCIETY HILL – Mr. Theodore Addison “Andy” Kirby, 66, died on Friday, April 1, 2022. Born, December 5, 1955, in Blenheim, SC, he was a son of the late Theodore Kirby and Flora Catherine Hudson Bryant and Glenn Bryant, Sr. Andy graduated Class of 1974 from Cheraw High School and worked for Thermo-Fisher Scientific. He was a member of Welsh Neck Baptist Church in Society Hill, SC where he loved to see youth in the church. Andy was a member of Cheraw Masonic Lodge #15 and helped with numerous civic organizations and programs, such as Christmas in April, Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity, The Angel Tree, and helping place wreaths at cemeteries for Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day.

He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren taking vacations, and eating at different restaurants, especially crab legs and seafood. Andy also loved his yellow Camaro, riding his motorcycle, his tractor, and old cars. He enjoyed spending time helping people by donating his time and money any way that he could and helping work at Norris Farms with his friends.  Andy loved people and never met a stranger, but most of all he loved his wife, whom he had been with for 46 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Kirby, Flora Kirby Bryant, and Glenn Bryant, Sr.; his grandmother, Shirley Graham; brothers, Harold Jefferson Bryant, Donald Gene Kirby, and Glenn Bryant, Jr.; and a sister, Mia Michelle Bryant.

Andy leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 42 years, Laura Purvis Kirby of the home; daughters, Jennifer Kirby (James Erwin) of Mayesville, SC, Jessica Hatcher (Jackie Hatcher, Jr.) of Darlington, SC, and Journey Lomas (Brandon Lomas) of Society Hill, SC; brothers, Woodrow Kirby (Sheila), and Charles Kirby; sisters, Kathy Shoemake, Joann Warr (Randy), Frances Locklear (Evans), and Dora Locklear; grandchildren, Kirby Gainey, Baylee Gainey, J.J. Erwin, Zaylor Hatcher, Kross Hatcher, Ezra Hatcher, Salem Lomas, and Bexley Lomas; great-grandchildren, Kyler Gainey, and Paislee Gainey; a sister-in-law, Angie Bryant; brother-in-laws, Brandon Wilson (Michelle), Chad Wilson, and Tony Purvis (Debbie); a special aunt, Shirley Bryant; his work family; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family received friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2022, prior to the funeral service at Welsh Neck Baptist Church in Society Hill, SC.

A funeral service was held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2022, at Welsh Neck Baptist Church in Society Hill, SC. Burial followed at the Church Cemetery.

Sarah Ratliff Livingston

CHERAW – Mrs. Sarah Ratliff Livingston, age 91, slipped away peacefully to her heavenly home on Monday, March 28, 2022, while resting at home with her family.

A service to celebrate her life was held at 3:00PM Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in McFarlan, NC, with Rev. Lonnie Grose officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family greeted friends before the service in the church beginning at 2:00PM.

Born in Anson County on May 17, 1930, Sarah was one of ten children born to the late James Franklin and Lena Shoemaker Ratliff. She was a graduate of local public schools before embarking on a career with First National Bank which later became Southern National Bank. She retired with over 30 years of service to the bank and her community.

Survivors include two sons, Hugh Livingston (Lib) of Cheraw, and Jerry Livingston (Tilly) of Murrells Inlet; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, Joe Ratliff and her sister, Clara Hendrick.

In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Henry A. Livingston, in 2019 along with her siblings – Frank, Monroe, Myrtle, Floyd, Lena, Johnny, and Guy.

The family suggests that memorials be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Sarah.

Linda Sue Starling

CHERAW – Mrs. Linda Sue Starling, 58, died on Thursday, March 31, 2022. Born, May 23, 1963, in Marlboro County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Mae Clark McQuage. Linda loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and going out to eat. She also enjoyed watching her soap operas, going on vacations, and crossword puzzles.

Along with her parents, listed above, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, James Steve Starling; and brothers, Jerry McQuage, and William McQuage.

Linda leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sons, Jason Starling (Dallas) of Cheraw, SC, and Anthony Starling of Cheraw, SC; a daughter, Bridgette Starling of Cheraw, SC; brothers, Johnny McQuage (Mary) of Cheraw, SC, and Billy Joe “Crow” McQuage (Patricia) of Wallace, SC; a sister, Eva Hewitte of Cheraw, SC, grandchildren, Mary Jane Starling, Landon Starling, August Starling, Bradley Weatherford, Gauge Starling, and Victoria Thompson; and great-grandchildren, Sophia Bittle, and Waylon Bittle.

The family received friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service was held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at Kiser Funeral Home.
