Mary Leona Jean

Mary Leona Jean, 66, of Pageland, died on January 9, 2023. She is survived by her daughters, Kelly Emerson and Nicole Medeiros; grandchildren, Everett Medeiros and Giselle Medeiros; brother, Robert Lindemon, Jr.; sister, Susan Clark. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lindemon, Sr. and Iris Kairis; sisters, Dorothy Grubb and Mildred Phillips. She loved taking care of animals, baking, reading about history, and debating politics.

Charles S McLendon

WALLACE – Charles S. McLendon, 78, died Saturday, January 28, 2023. Born in Bennettsville, SC, he was the son of the late Charlie Garrett and Ruby Hatcher McLendon. Charles proudly served in the United States Army and then went on to work many years in various managerial roles in manufacturing plants.
Charles enjoyed spoiling his family, loving on his beloved cat “Scooter”, and feeding any animal that wandered in his yard. He loved to fish, hunt, pick his guitars, and be outside tinkering. His doting wife of fifty-four years, two sons, and granddaughter loved him so much. He used every opportunity he had to raise hell and he will be sorely missed everyday.

Surviving is his wife Alice Faye Guinn McLendon of the home. Sons, Charles S. McLendon, II of Charleston, SC, and Bert G. McLendon of Austin, TX. A granddaughter, Courtney M. Bullard, her husband Kelly, and great grandchildren, Blair and Charles Bullard. A brother, Jack McLendon of Wallace, SC. Sisters, Mary Louise Walker of Polkton, NC, Shirley J. Eline of Fayetteville, NC and Sheila A. Jones of Cheraw, SC.
He was preceded in death by his parents listed above, brothers, Fred McLendon, James McLendon, and Billy Graham “Pete” McLendon.

A graveside service was held at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 30, 2023 at Pleasant Hill UMC Cemetery, Wallace, SC. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.

Sarah Anna Via Melton

CHESTERFIELD – Mrs. Sarah Anna Via Melton, age 86, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. Funeral services were held at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 28, 2023 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor David Bessinger and Brent Taylor. A private committal service followed in the Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery. The family greet friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday, January 27, 2023 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Melton was born October 12, 1936 in Columbia, SC a daughter of the late Irvin James and Anna Pearl Shull Via. She attended the University of South Carolina and was a member of Chesterfield Presbyterian Church. A loving homemaker, Anna enjoyed traveling, working in her flowers, and soaking in the sun by the pool. Mrs. Melton was an adventurous spirit who enjoyed living over seas and attaining her pilot’s license. She will be fondly remembered for her selfless and giving spirit who was a gracious host to everyone she met.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Melton was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Carroll “Bobby” Melton; and sister, Jean Tracy.

Survivors include her children, Robert Carroll Melton, Jr. of Chesterfield, SC, Jeffrey Dean (Kimberly) Melton of Dillon, SC, and Theresa “Terry” Lynn Melton of Eatonton, GA; brother, Irvin J. Via; sisters-in-law, Josephine “Jo” Melton of Sunset Beach, NC, and Rose Melton of Seneca Falls, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Flowers are welcomed or memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Robert ‘Mack’ Nicholson

Mr. Robert “Mack” Nicholson, 76, of Mt. Croghan, SC went to be with his Lord on Thursday, January 26, 2023 while surrounded by his loving family.

Mack Nicholson was born on November 7, 1946 in Mt. Croghan, SC to the late Press and Emma Phillips Nicholson. Mack later met and united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Ann Nicholson. He worked for many department stores including BC Moore and Belk. He continued his working career as a car salesman at Bob Mayberry for over 20 years where he was one of their highest selling salesman. In 1981, Mack revived the Pageland Farmer’s Market and in 1982 The Pageland Watermelon Festival. He restored twelve buildings in the Downtown Pageland Business District including efforts to save and restore the Blakeney Hotel. After hard work and dedication, Mack reopened The Ball Theatre in 2016. He was named the Honorary Mayor of Pageland in September of 2022. Mack always supported the Pageland Garden Club with all their efforts and projects. He was a member of the Pageland Historical Society and a lifelong farmer, especially watermelons. Mack loved history, Charleston, SC and an avid Richard Petty fan. He is preceded in death by his parents; niece, Sharon Joy “Sissy” Nicholson and daughter-in-law, Polly Nicholson.

Mr. Nicholson is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Ann Nicholson, of the home, sons, Rodney Nicholson (Melissa) of Pageland, SC, Robert Jason Nicholson of Mt. Croghan, SC, Ryan Patrick Nicholson (Angelica) of Pageland, SC and Russell Nicholson (Melissa) of Pageland, SC; brother, Ronnie Nicholson (Karen) of Mt. Croghan, SC; sisters, Sue Bailey (James) of Mt. Croghan, SC and Wanda Douglas (Kenny) of Mt. Croghan, SC; grandchildren, Katy McNew (Ben) of Richfield, SC, Matthew Nicholson (BreAnna) and Megan Nicholson both of Pageland, SC, Blake Nicholson (Mikayla) of Indian Trail, NC, Hannah Noel Nicholson, Christian Nicholson Emma Natalyn Nicholson, Carter Nicholson, Ryan Patrick Nicholson, II, Callie “Princes” Nicholson and Rhett O’Neal Nicholson all of Pageland, SC; great grandchildren, Everly Nicholson of Indian Trail, NC, Hudson McNew of Richfield, SC and Brooks Nicholson of Indian Trail, NC.

The family received friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday, January 29, 2023 at Baumgartner Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service was held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 30, 2023 at Pageland Community Center, 1113 W. McGregor Street, Pageland, SC 29728 with Rev. Rodney Nicholson officiating. The burial followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park of Pageland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pageland Farmer’s Market, C/O Ryan Nicholson, 3062 Hwy 601 North, Pageland, SC 29728.
