Evelyn Cheves Brock

CHERAW – Mrs. Evelyn Cheves Brock, age 77, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday morning, March 5, 2023 at her home with her family by her side. Funeral services were held at 4:00 PM Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Westfield Creek Baptist Church by Pastor Jason Pope and Brent Taylor with burial following in the church cemetery. The family greeted friends from 3:00 – 4:00 PM Tuesday, prior to the service at the church and other times at Mrs. Evelyn’s home.

Mrs. Brock was born July 17, 1945 in Marlboro County, SC a daughter of the late Horace and Marcella Griggs Cheves. She was a retired employee of Highland Industries and a long-time member of Westfield Creek Baptist Church, where she served as former Sunday school secretary and Pre-School Teacher’s Assistant. Evelyn enjoyed working in her flowers, watching preaching, the Gaither Homecoming videos, and the Andy Griffith Show. She also enjoyed a good shopping trip and spending time with her family. Her greatest passion was being “grandma next door” to her grandkids and all their friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brock was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Howard Brock; infant daughter, Tonya Brock; mother-in-law & father-in-law, Nancy Jane Moore Brock and Archie Clyde Brock; brothers-in-law, Calvin Brock, and Jack Bennett; sisters-in-law, Lola Mae Lee, Leona (J.W.) Morris, and Elizabeth (Howard) Pierce.

Survivors include her son, Tommy (Melissa) Brock of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Lane Brock, and Kasey Brock; sister, Lois Bennett of Cheraw, SC; sisters-in-law, Louise Bennett of Cheraw, SC, and Sara Cheves of Wallace, SC; brother-in-law, Edward (Dianne) Brock of Cheraw, SC; sister-in-law, Diane (Boggan) Allen of Ansonville, NC; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, and cousins; in addition to special friends, Patricia Nelson, Bobby & Delores Lewis, Henry Ratliff, Steve & Mary Alice Stafford.

Frank Marvin Kelly

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY – Mr. Frank Marvin Kelly, 84, died on Tuesday, February 28, 2023.  Born, December 28, 1938, in Smithville, SC, he was a son of the late Marvin and Myrtle Cranford Kelly.  Frank served his Country Proudly in the United States Navy, retiring as a Gunner’s Mate Senior Chief Petty Officer, and was the former owner of Pee Dee Heating and Air in Cheraw.  Frank was the former Vice President and Treasurer of the Navy Nuclear Weapons Association, a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, and was a Master Mason in the Norfolk Lodge No. 1 in Norfolk, VA.  He was also a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and Shriner Khedive Temple, both in Norfolk, VA.  Frank was also part of vetfriend.com, as well as a member of the Association of Mature American Citizens, and the National Rifle Association.

Along with his parents, listed above, Frank, was preceded in death by his brother, Stanley Kelly; his twin sisters, Jewell Kelly, and Janice Kelly; his adoptive parents, Preston and Winnie Nolan; and an adoptive brother, Robert “Bob” Nolan.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Brenda S. Kelly of the home; a daughter, Sabrina K. Packett (Ed) of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Emily D. Howell, and Olivia J. Howell; an aunt Edith Quick of Cheraw, SC; a step-son, Danny Gulledge of Cheraw, SC; step-daughters, Tammy G. Crocker of Salisbury, NC, and Melissa G. Bradshaw of Summerton, SC; six step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and an adoptive sister, Edna N. Chapman.

A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023, at Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw, SC.  Burial followed in St. David’s Cemetery in Cheraw, SC.

The family received friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw, SC.

Kiser Funeral Home has been entrusted to serve the Kelly family in their time of grief.

Josephine ‘Joker’ Poole

CHESTERFIELD – Mrs. Josephine “Joker” Poole, age 89, entered into rest on Saturday, March 4, 2023. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Shiloh United Methodist Church by Pastor Fred McDaniel with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Thursday in the Shiloh United Methodist Church fellowship hall prior to the service.

Mrs. Poole was born September 23, 1933 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Robert Roy and Mary Luella Tucker Shaw. Joker was a dedicated lifelong member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. She loved music and was a member of the choir for 51 years. Joker was also the church historian and loved every minute she spent working at it. She enjoyed sharing pictures she had taken at church events. Joker loved the Prayer Shawl Ministry at Shiloh and the fellowship that the group shared. Her greatest love in life was her family and her many “honorary” grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Poole was also preceded in death by her husband, John “Shang” Poole; brothers, Dale Shaw, Gene Shaw, Buddy Shaw, Wayne Shaw; sisters, Betty Johnson, Sara “fuzzy” Sellers, and Debbie Rivers.

Survivors include her siblings, Sylvia (Al) Huggins of Chesterfield, SC, Bennie Lou (Benny) Moore of Cheraw, SC, Bonnie (Pat) Millican of Bend, TX, Annie Freeman of Pageland, SC, and Rachel White of Cordell, OK.

Lou Ann Redfearn

MT. PLEASANT – Lou Ann Redfearn passed away peacefully in her home in Mt. Pleasant, SC on February 28, 2023. She leaves behind her husband of almost 30 years, Alexander (Sandy) Hines. Due to Lou Ann’s declining health over the years, Sandy also became her caregiver.

Lou Ann was born on June 12, 1954 in Chesterfield, SC to the late Ray R. and Evelyn R. Redfearn. She graduated from Chesterfield High School and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the College of Charleston, Charleston, SC.

Lou Ann felt called to help others, especially those suffering from mental illness and behavioral health issues. She worked diligently throughout her career in behavioral healthcare in Charleston and surrounding area.

In addition to her parents, Lou Ann was preceded in death by her foster son and son of her heart, Jimmie Roberts. The family is comforted by the knowledge that Lou Ann is reunited with her parents and beloved son.

Lou Ann is also survived by her sisters Marie (Lamont) Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio, Elaine (Greg) Benner of Chesterfield, SC, Lindy (George Paisley, Sr) Watson of Chesterfield, SC, and her Aunts Mary Redfearn of Chesterfield, SC, Mary Martin of Mt. Pleasant, SC. She is also survived by her nephews, Justin McLain, Daniel McLain, Paisley Watson, Jr., Tyler Watson, Nate Smith and her niece, Emily Smith, as well as her grandnephews, grandniece and cousins. Lou Ann is also survived by her in-laws Cathy Hines Bolt, Cameron Marks Hines and her ex-husband and special friend, Rick Sillivant.

As Lou Ann’s health declined, she was unable to travel and get out and about as she did in the past. She spent much of her time on social media keeping up with friends and family. Lou Ann will be deeply missed by the lives she touched. Her kindness, generosity and spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be later this spring.
