Ann Imbimbo Bass

CHESTERFIELD – Mrs. Ann Imbimbo Bass, age 93, entered into rest on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Cheraw Healthcare with her family by her side. Graveside services were held at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family greeted friends immediately following the service at the cemetery and other times at the home of her granddaughter, Teresa.

Mrs. Bass was born May 27, 1929 in Manhattan, NY a daughter of the late Anthony and Josephine Maffeo Imbimbo. She was a retired Children’s Home Supervisor in the state of Florida and a devoted foster parent. Ann was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and was a loving homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bass was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Bass; daughters, Jo Ann Castelli, Linda Gaye Hunt, and Nancy Castelli; and brothers, Gabriel Imbimbo, and Henry Imbimbo.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Ronald Wayne (Millie) Rowan, Jr. of Wadesboro, NC, Teresa Gulledge (Carroll) of Chesterfield, SC, and Melissa (Rev. Rodney) Nicholson of Pageland, SC; great grandchildren, Kailyn Clark, Eli (Summer) Gulledge, Ethan Gulledge, and Hannah Gulledge (Ernest); great-great grandchildren, Travis Reid Gulledge, Mylah Joines, and Maggie Ishmell.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Stephen Smith and the staff and administration of Cheraw Healthcare for the exceptional love and care they provided, and a special thank you to long-time caregiver and friend, Cindy Gibson.

Katherine Ward Rivers Braswell

LAURENS – Mrs. Katherine Ward Rivers Braswell passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023. She was a kind and loving person who always wore a smile. She loved her family unconditionally. She was the daughter of the late Charles Vogal Rivers and Katherine Bookhardt Ward Rivers. Katherine Ward was born on February 20, 1932 in her maternal grandmother’s home in Bethune, SC. She grew up in Chesterfield, SC and graduated in 1950 from Chesterfield High School where she was President of the Senior Class. She attended Wake Forest College and in 1951 she married her husband of 51 years Jimmy Braswell.

Katherine Ward and her husband were former owners of Chesterfield Drug Co. She worked alongside her husband for long as they owned the business. Many young people learned the art of gift wrapping from her while working parttime at the drugstore.

She was a member of Chesterfield Baptist Church from 1944 to 2004. Over the years she served as Training Union Leader, GA Leader, RA Leader, church Clerk, church Treasurer and Deacon. She also worked as church secretary. She joined First Baptist Church Laurens, SC when she moved to Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Community after the death of her husband in 2002.

Katherine Ward was a member of the Old Cheraws Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She served on the Board of Directors for the Carolinas Chapter of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation.

She enjoyed playing bridge and all board games, going to the SC beaches and fishing with her husband. One of her hobbies was knitting and she knitted a Christmas stocking for every one of her children, their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. These stockings will be forever cherished.

She is survived by her children James Braswell and his wife Amy, Kate Braswell, Ward Braswell and his wife Kaye, Flora Wallace and her husband Perry, Tom Braswell and his wife Lyee and Jack Braswell. Grandchildren Christy Braswell, Jessica Braswell, Matthew Braswell (Chrissy), Kirkley Renwick (Robert), Laura Traxler (Shana), Thomas Braswell (Courtney), Victoria Braswell, Kelsey Braswell, Kaylee Braswell, Kobi Malka, Ilan Malka, Zephaniah Malka, Judah Malka and Aitan Malka. Also, seven great grandchildren, Mattison, Carter, Miles, Grayson, Walt, Kaylen, and Eliza. A brother Charlie Rivers and his wife Mary.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, April 20, 2023 in the Miller Rivers Caulder Funeral Home Chapel in Chesterfield, SC. The visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home. A private interment will be held at the Rivers Cemetery. Vaden Otha Freeman Sr.

CHESTERFIELD – Mr. Vaden Otha Freeman, Sr., age 90, entered into rest on Wednesday, April 12, 2023. Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Zoar United Methodist Church by Pastor Billy Jack Johnson and Reverend Hank Griffin with burial following in the church cemetery. The family greeted friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM in the church sanctuary prior to the service.

Mr. Freeman was born April 8, 1933 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina a son of the late Rue and Madge White Freeman. Mr. Freeman retired from Delta Mills after 40 years of service. He was also a lifelong member of Zoar United Methodist Church. Vaden was a car enthusiast who enjoyed both driving and admiring cars. He also enjoyed shooting his guns. Vaden could often be found watching his favorite shows which included I Love Lucy, John Wayne movies, and especially the Andy Griffith Show. Above all else, Mr. Freeman loved being a grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Freeman was also preceded in death by his grandson, Jonathan Coburn; great-grandson, Aaron Jacob Maybry; son-in-law, Danny Carpenter; and siblings, Edith Frazier, Ruby Teal, and Heyward Freeman.

Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 67 years, Betty P. Freeman of the home; children, Vaden (Sharon) Freeman, Jr, of Chesterfield, SC; Joel (Darlene) Freeman of Chesterfield, SC, Dennis (Trenia) Freeman of Ruby, SC; Vickie Carpenter of Chesterfield, SC, Cindy (Tony, Sr.) Tyner of Chesterfield, SC; grandchildren, Brandon Freeman, Kim (Andy) Dean, Amanda Freeman, Ashley Steen, Farron (Jonathan) Morris, Summer Freeman, Whitney Freeman, Brian Moore, Gary Moore, Samantha (Adam) Mabry, Randall (Bailey) Sellers, Tiffaney (Dustin Pratt) Carpenter, Krista (Denny) Balchin, Kyle Rivers, Tony Tyner, Jr., Savannah Tyner; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jasmine, Noah, A.J., Jimmy, Bobbie Rose, Duke, Phillip, Hannah, Kaydin, Grayson, C.J., Tyler, Sophie, Kylie, Briley, Brentley, Logan, Floyd, Jackson, Jamison, Jaycee, Case, Cash, Noah M., Eason, Madyson, Peyton, Landen, Leland, Colter, Chayton; brother, Ronnie (Betty M.) Ronnie Eugene Huntley

PAGELAND – Ronnie Eugene Huntley, age 76, passed away April 7th, 2023 at McWhorter Hospice House of Union County surrounded by family and friends. Ronnie Huntley was born February 13th, 1947 in Florence to the late John Thomas and Venice Campbell Huntley. Ronnie was a Chief Investigator at Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Department, serving for 33 years before retiring. He was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church, serving as the sound coordinator and was a devoted member for many years. Ronnie was a known musician, who sang and played guitar. In addition, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Lastly, he was someone who simply enjoyed telling stories and making others laugh. Ronnie is survived by his wife of 45 years, Susan Hicks Huntley; son, Jeff Huntley (Stephanie) of Lugoff, SC granddaughter, Madison Huntley (Aaron) of Lugoff, SC; great-grandson, Steven Burdin; brother, Jerry C. Huntley of Chesterfield, SC and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by two brothers, John Austin Huntley and Larry Thomas Huntley. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service was held at 3:15 PM on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Liberty Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Mack Mullis officiating. The burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Liberty Hill Baptist Church in the Fellowship Hall. Kathy Marlow

COLUMBIA – The family of Kathy Marlow, 72, announces with deep sorrow her passing on April 1, 2023 at Lowcountry Community Hospice House of Summerville, SC. Kathy was born in Harmony, NC on January 27, 1951, to the late Walter A. and Irene Gregory Marlow. Kathy resided in Columbia, SC. Left to cherish memories are her sisters, Debbie (Mike) Thompson of McBee, Vicky (Rev. Thorn) Harvey of Rock Hill, and Linda (Harold) Zorn of Walterboro. Nephews, Alex (Sarah) Thompson of Easley, Rev. Will Harvey of Myrtle Beach, and Frankie Zorn of Gaston. Nieces, Marla (Toyo) Thompson-Phongprija of Florence, and Leah Harvey of Columbia. A special cousin, more like a sister, Judy Thompson of Camden. Numerous great nieces and cousins. Kathy’s hobbies were sewing, painting ceramic, and listening to country music. Kathy’s favorite things were cats, attending Garth Brooks concerts locally. She also never missed Clemson nor Carolina games on the TV. A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm, April 22, 2023 in McBee Cemetery, McBee, SC. The Rev. Thom Harvey will officiate. The family will receive family and friends immediately after the service. A special request from the family in honor of Kathy’s home going, please wear casual attire. William Norman Matheson

MARIETTA, Ga. – William Norman Matheson, 89, died Thursday, April 13, 2023. Born in Cheraw, SC, he was a son of the late Johnny Culpepper and Rosa Mae Tyson Matheson. As a US Army Veteran, he served as an Infantryman during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of First Baptist of Marietta. William enjoyed camping, square dancing, traveling and bowling.

He is survived by his son, Dennis (Rebecca) Matheson, of Marietta, GA, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Isgett Matheson, a son, Kent Matheson, brothers, David, Doc, Elliot, Ernest, Leslie, and Roy Matheson, and sisters, Clara Matheson, Dorothy Brown, Rosa Mae Craft and Lily Matheson Wallace.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at 1:00 PM, in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens in Cheraw, SC.
