Miriam Teal Goodale

CHESTERFIELD – Mrs. Miriam Teal Goodale, age 82, passed away after a valiant battle with cancer surrounded by love with her husband holding one hand and daughter, Sheila holding the other. A Celebration of Life graveside service was held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery officiated by Pastor Fred McDaniel, Reverend Grover Johnson, and Brent Taylor. The family greeted friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Wednesday, prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

Mrs. Goodale was born October 22, 1940 in Cheraw, SC a daughter of the late Ferris and Ethel Lee Teal. She was a retired H.R. Manager with Cheraw Dyeing and Finishing with over 25 years of service and also the retired owner of The Casual Shoppe. Mrs. Goodale was a faithful member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. Miriam had a deep love for her family, friends, co-workers over the years, and all animals. A dedicated and hard worker, she was a very creative lady. She was also a very talented seamstress and an accomplished needle point craftsman.

Mrs. Goodale had an eye for interior design and always enjoyed a trip to the thrift and antique stores in search of a deal. Other hobbies included reading, gardening, and shopping. She enjoyed traveling abroad with her husband and in later years they enjoyed taking a ride throughout the countryside, as long as it was a road she had not yet traveled! Miriam was quick to talk about her special love for her great-great grandson, Reid; and her “side-kick,” Lily her pug. A lady who always put others first, even when she was physically unable, she did all she could to see that her husband’s health was addressed and taken care of while in the hospital. She loved him and doted on him until her final breath.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, W.M. Goodale, Sr. of the home; children, Sheila Goodale (Steve) Quick of Chesterfield, SC, and Walter McKenny “Ken” Goodale, Jr. of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Corey Quick of Chesterfield, SC, Emily Quick (Chris) Turner of Greenville, SC, and Walter McKenny Goodale, III of Wallace, SC; great grandchildren, Summer (Eli) Quick, Zach Oliver, Zane Johnson, and Luke Turner; great-great grandson, Reid Gulledge; and numerous cousins including special cousin and close friend, Billy Williams.

Edward ‘Ed’ Peter Gooden

Mr. Edward “Ed” Peter Gooden, age 79, entered into rest on Tuesday, June 27, 2023. Funeral services were held at 5:00 PM Friday, June 30, 2023 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor Tracy Gooding, Pastor Drake Horton, and Brent Taylor with burial following in the Bay Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family greeted friends from 4:00 – 5:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Mr. Gooden was born April 26, 1944 in Chesterfield, SC a son of the late Barney Peter and Tempiebell Gulledge Gooden. He was a retired employee of Tenner Brothers Winery and a member of Chesterfield Masonic Lodge #220. Ed was also a faithful member of Bay Springs Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and on various other committees throughout the years. A man who never met a stranger, he always enjoyed striking up a conversation and always had a good joke to share. Ed enjoyed fishing, traveling to the mountains, going out to eat at his favorite restaurants, and going for a ride through the country. He loved the Lord and his family, and also enjoyed supporting the Chesterfield Golden Rams athletics.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Gooden was also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Candy Winstead Gooden; brothers, Donald Gooden and his wife, Annie Sue, Jessie Gooden, Robert Gooden, and Junior Gooden.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Linda W. Gooden; children, Michelle (Tom) Gooden Duvall of Bethune, SC, Marty (Kim) Gooden of Chesterfield, SC, Jammy (Allyson) Gooden, and Kelli (Travis) Bryan both of Patrick, SC; grandchildren, Caleb Gooden (Lexi Grant), Logan Gooden (Chase Ingram), Landen Craig (Courtney Haire), Michael “Ace” Craig (Morgan Wharton); brother, Roy Gooden of Patrick, SC; sisters-in-law, Vennie Smith, Edith Wilkerson, and Barbara Gooden; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved 4-legged companion, “Bella.”

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to caregivers, Mindy Parker, Brooke Gardner, Tara Wilson, Alisha Perdue, Tabitha Griggs, and special niece, Betty Jo Starnes.

Wayne Everett Hood

CHESTERFIELD – Mr. Wayne Everett Hood, age 78, entered into rest on Tuesday, June 27, 2023. Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM Friday, June 30, 2023 at Shiloh United Methodist Church by Pastor Fred McDaniel and Reverend Bill Brock with burial following in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mr. Hood was born August 10, 1944 in Marlboro County, SC a son of the late James Franklin and Agatha Hood. He was the retired owner and operator of Cheraw Pawn & Jewelry and a former employee of Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Bennettsville, SC. Wayne was a faithful member of Shiloh United Methodist Church where he served as sound technician, cemetery committee member, and served on the Administrative Council. He was also an active member of the Shiloh Men’s Club and the Shiloh Bible Study, where he served as the “assistant” teacher. Wayne enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley Davidson three-wheeler motorcycle, and riding bicycles with the Shiloh group known as “Sandy’s Heroes.” A man who never met a stranger, Wayne will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, and his uncanny ability to remember everyone’s name.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hood was also preceded in death by his brother, James Evans Hood; and step-son, Neil S. Hinson.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Margie S. Hood of the home; children, Chad E. (Dawn) Hood of Cheraw, SC, Howard Shawn (Heather) Crowley of Summerville, SC; and Mike (Fern) Hinson of Chesterfield, SC; grandson, Rosell Quick of Chesterfield, SC; and his long-time special friend, Jim Bostic.

Jean Catoe Jordan

Jean Catoe Jordan departed from this world on June 24, 2023, at the age of 92. Born to the late Gus Sulee Catoe and Elsie Johnson Catoe on March 27, 1932 in Middendorf, SC, she is the salutatorian of the McBee Class of 1947. She was married to the late B.C. “Ducy” Jordan.
Preceding her in death were daughters Susan Jordan and Lynn Jordan Stidom; daughter-in-law Margaret Roscoe Jordan; stepmother Vena Dixon Catoe and nine siblings: Ruth Gainey, Freddie Soule, Ralph D. Catoe, Helen Amelia Catoe Monnie, William Augustus Catoe,  Janet Pickrell, Shirley Sweatt, Julius Stanley Catoe, Hilda Ann “Sister” Catoe, Franklin Alexander Catoe and Deborah Gail Catoe.
Jean is survived by her children, Gregory Jordan, Carole Jordan and Lori Jordan, in addition to seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Shirley Catoe Sullivan, Judy Catoe Branch, Rebecca Catoe Snipes, Joseph Richard Catoe, George Randolph Catoe, Amos Sulee Catoe and John Robert Catoe; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on last Wednesday in Middendorf Baptist Church Cemetery with The Rev. William Catoe officiating. The family received friends immediately following the service in the auxiliary building
The family asks that memorials be made in her honor to Middendorf Baptist Church, 2202 Middendorf Church Road, Hartsville, SC 29550.

HAMLET, N.C. – Mr. Paul Moos, 69, died Friday, June 23, 2023. Born August 10, 1953, in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Jacob John and Martha Irons Moos. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing. He was a loving father and grandfather.

Along with his parents, listed above, he was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Moos; and sisters, Christina Moos Ainsworth, Susan Bleinstein, and Vilma Moos Rohde.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughter, Amanda Ramsey of Philadelphia, PA; his grandchildren, Trey Ramsey, and Justin Motsko; brothers, Jake Moos (Deborah) of Opelika, AL and Mark Moos of Hamlet, NC.

No formal services are planned at this time.
