Betty Jane Chavis-Reeves

BENNETTSVILLE – Betty Jane Chavis-Reeves, 86, entered into rest on Saturday, July 15, 2023. Betty was born June 20, 1937, in Bennettsville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Tyson Brooks Chavis and Meloise Brigman Chavis. Betty was a dedicated member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Betty retired from Delta Mills and Ford Motor Company. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, and canning. One of her favorite past times was going to flea markets.

Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sons, Charles Reeves of Bennettsville, SC, Harold Reeves (Angela) of Bennettsville, SC, Anthony Moore (Sue) of Georgia, James Moore III of Bennettsville, SC; daughters, Sandy Reeves Bryant (Tony) of Bennettsville, SC, Shirley Caulder (Charles) of Clio, SC, Kathy Moore of Bennettsville, SC, Virginia Ann Jennings of Bennettsville, SC; eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; a honorary son, James Prince; and her beloved dog, Missy.

Along with her parents, listed above, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Reeves; brothers, Bryant Chavis, Hughie Chavis; and a sister, Mary-Alice Chavis Lanthier.

The family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service will be held 5:00 p.m., Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC. Burial will be in the Chavis Cemetery, Bennettsville, SC 29512.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crescent Hospice, 1039 Cheraw Street, Bennettsville, SC 29512.

Bonnie Yavonne Sweatt Nolan

BENNETTSVILLE – Mrs. Bonnie Yavonne Sweatt Nolan, 89, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at her home following a long, hard battle with cancer.

Born June 5, 1934, in Bennettsville, SC, to the late Steve and Florence (Stacy) Sweatt. Mrs. Bonnie was a graduate of Bennettsville High School and a widow of the late J.C Nolan. She worked in the textile industry and for many years with Carolina Packaging Company in Cheraw, SC. She was a loving wife and mother of 8 children, and had many beloved grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory a son, Steve J. Nolan (Peggy) of Bennettsville; daughters, Cynthia Locklear of Bennettsville, Brenda Kay Hunt of Latta, Vickie Lee Gandy (Travis) of Bennettsville, Donna Jacobs (Kenny) of Cheraw, and Sherry Carlton of Bennettsville; 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above; sons, Wayne Clinton Nolan, Davy Nolan; sons-in-law, Robert Locklear and Eddie Hunt; brothers, Junior Sweatt, Leonard Sweatt, Woodrow E. Sweatt, infant brothers Henry and Leviston Sweatt; sisters, Ola Mae Cole, Minnie Sweatt Boney, Betty Sweatt Brown, and Edna Murel Sweatt Dretzel.

A graveside service was held at 11:00 A.M.  Friday, July 14, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Park.

Esther Quick

BENNETTSVILLE – Esther Quick, 97, entered into rest on Friday, July 14, 2023. Esther was born August 12, 1925, in Bennettsville, SC, she was the daughter of the late William Shuford Quick and Dessie Chavis Quick. Esther was a life-long, dedicated member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Bennettsville, SC. She was a vital part of the United Methodist Women group at Ebenezer and enjoyed spending time with her fellow members. Esther had retired from Burlington Industries, Farron’s restaurant, and Mayflower restaurant. Esther was affectionally called “Granny Beck” or “Aunt Beck” by many. She enjoyed cooking and got joy from providing good food for everyone she knew. She liked to spend time quilting and making quilts with her grandchildren. Esther was a loving, personable lady who was a friend to all. She deeply loved and cared for her family.

Esther leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sons, Wayne Creech (Debbie) of Augusta, GA, Larry Creech of Bennettsville, SC; daughters, Diane Starnes of Bennettsville, SC, Joan Brock Lammonds (Marty) of Bennettsville, SC, Becky Quick Cotten (Dave) of Baker, FL; grandchildren, Sonya McNeil (Kevin), Brett Creech, Cody Gilmore (Jenny), Colby Starnes (Amber), Dalton Cotten, Hailee Scherry (Chaz), Dillon Cotten (Sierra), Lydia Davis, Jenna Nesbitt; and great-grandchildren, Kendall McNeil, Adalynn Cotten, Brynlee Cotten, and Drayton Scherry.

Along with her parents, listed above, she was preceded in death by a son, John Wesley “Tom” Brock; brothers, Tildon Quick, Weldon Quick, Troy Quick, Andrew Quick, W.S. Quick Jr., Joe Hayes Quick, Donnie Lee Quick, Frank Quick, Jim Carrol Quick; and sisters, Pauline Smith, Irene Wallace.

The family received friends 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Bennettsville, SC.

A funeral service was held at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Bennettsville, SC. Burial was in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church cemetery.
