Zeb Anthony (Andy) English
CHERAW – Zeb Anthony “Andy” English, 63, passed away on Monday, October 30. 2023. Born in Bennettsville, SC, he was a son of the late Zeb and Betty English. Andy was a graduate of Wallace High School, where he played football for the Bearcats. He went on to work for INA (Schaeffler Group) as a maintenance technician. Andy enjoyed farming and gardening, watching football and NASCAR, he was an avid Jimmie Johnson fan. He loved spending time with his family, especially Sundays at his mom’s house. He was a laid-back, easy-going guy, that loved to be the life of the party.
Andy is survived by his wife, Hope White English, of the home; sons, Cameron (Cheyenne) English, of Blenheim, SC; Baylen (Sarah) English, of Chapin, SC; and Jonathan (Amie) Brown of Florida; a daughter, Avril English, of South Carolina; brothers, Frankie English, of Wallace, SC; and Brittany (Mandy) English, of Bennettsville, SC, a sister, Elaine (Tony) Creech, of Wallace, SC and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents listed above, a brother Randy English, and a sister Gaynell Coates.
The family received friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.
A funeral service followed at 2:00pm on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Kiser Funeral Home.
Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery, Wallace, SC.
Visitors are also welcome at his childhood home, 3145 Grants Mill Road West, Wallace, SC beginning at 4:30pm.

Joan Gaskins
CHESTERFIELD – Miss Joan Gaskins, age 89, entered into rest on Saturday, October 28, 2023. In keeping with her wishes a service will be held at a later date, and Miss Joan will be laid to rest along with her beloved twin sister, Jean in the Hopewell Baptist Church.
Miss Gaskins was born October 1, 1934 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Carl and Jessie Gulledge Gaskins. She was a former employee of Sacony and Chesterfield Manufacturing. A life-long member of Hopewell Baptist Church, Joan was a loving daughter, sister, and friend to all. She lived her entire life on the Gaskins property in Chesterfield, humbly devoted to her faith, her family, her community, and her country.
In addition to her parents, Joan was also preceded in death by sisters, Mary Ella Lisenby, Charlotte Bagwell, Madge Dixon, Peggy Coffman, Betty Gaskins, and her twin sister, Jean Gaskins.
Joan was the last of the seven Gaskins girls, and is survived by special “sisters,” Linda Davis, Annelle Teal, Jayne Watson, and Terry Campbell; nephew-in-law, Mark Fortier, and son, Steven Fortier; nieces, Beth, Peggy, Susie, and Charlene; nephews, David, Mike, Tommy, James, and Eddie; and numerous great nephews and great nieces, lots of cousins, and so many friends.
The family is grateful to Cheraw Rehab Center and Gentiva Hospice of Chesterfield for their loving care of Aunt Jo during her last year.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Edwin H. Griggs
WALLACE – Mr. Edwin H. Griggs, 90, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023. orn in Marlboro County, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Julia Leviner Griggs. Edwin served in the US Army as a gunner. He worked for the Pet Milk Company, owned Crossroad Grocery, and L&G Auto along with a junkyard. Edwin was also the owner of a rental property business. Edwin enjoyed watching NASCAR every Sunday afternoon and pulling for the Carolina Panthers during football season. In his earlier years, he loved going to the races in Rockingham, Darlington, and Charlotte. On Friday nights, he could be found in Timmonsville watching his son and son-in-law racing at Florence Motor Speedway. Many people would say that Edwin was unapproachable, but if you really knew him you know he was a gentle giant. He would help anyone in need and not think twice about it. Most of all, Edwin loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Edwin was preceded in death by his wife, Grace White Griggs; sons, Edwin Chris Griggs, Duncan Chapman; daughters, Deanna D. Miles, Judy D. Clark; grandchild, Brad Lovin; and 4 brothers and 7 sisters.
Edwin is survived by his daughters, Tracy G. Miller (Jimbo) of Wallace, SC, Cheryl Lovin of Hamlet, NC, Sue C. Wester of Ocean Isle, NC, DeeGee C. English of Rosman, NC, Charlene C. Lyon (Ronald) of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Jimmy Miller (Chelsea), Trace Miller, Alicia Miles, Chasity Miles, Bryan Lovin (Erica), Ginger Griggs, Chrissy Griggs (Ross); great-grandchildren, Chapin, Jersey, Madison, Liley, Clayton, Ella, Karleigh, Sarah, Emma, Drew, Kenny, Ryder, Kinsley, Hunter, Levi, Solomon, Makenzie, Layla, Zach, Brenna; great great-grandchildren, Chris and Andrew; and many nieces and nephews.

Hannah Rhyne Gaddy Johnston
It is with great sadness, yet celebration that the family of Mrs. Hannah Rhyne Gaddy Johnston of Pageland, SC announces her death on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. Funeral services were held at 1:00 PM Friday, October 27, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Pageland with the Reverend Dr. Joel Dale officiating. The burial followed in the Anson Memorial Park of Wadesboro, NC. The family received friends from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Friday, prior to the service in the fellowship hall of the church.
Mrs. Johnston was born on February 16, 1933 in Ansonville, NC, a daughter of the late Spencer and Olivia Gaddy Rhyne. She dedicated over 23 years of her life to working at Service America before retiring. A devout Christian, she found solace in reading the word of God. She grew up attending Westfield Creek Baptist Church in Cheraw and later became a member of First Baptist Church in Pageland. Mrs. Johnston was also an active member of the Red Hat Society. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading, shopping, thrift store hunts at Goodwill, camping trips with her family, and traveling.
Preceding Mrs. Johnston in death were her first husband, Gerald Wayne Gaddy, and her son Randall Wayne “Randy” Gaddy.
She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Robert Story Johnston. Her cherished children include Bronwenn G. (Keith) Timmons of Pageland, SC and Chris (Wendy) Gaddy of Morven NC. Mrs. Johnston also leaves behind four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her brother Richard G. (Joan) Rhyne resides in Tampa Bay, FL.
Additionally, Mrs. Johnston had honorary daughters Janet Bennett and Carolyn Hilton who held a special place in her heart.

Mary H. ‘Nick’ Mills
RUBY – Mrs. Mary H. “Nick” Mills, age 88, entered into rest on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 with her family by her side. Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM Friday, November 3, 2023 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor Michael Davis, Bro. Randall Gainey, Sis. Becky Gainey, and Brent Taylor with burial to follow in the Ruby Church of God Cemetery by Pastor Ronnie Poston. The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, November 2, 2023 at the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter, Vickie & Mike Short.
Mrs. Mills was born May 25, 1935 in Chesterfield County, SC a daughter of the late Bebe Jerome and Mary Jane Taylor Morton. A woman of faith, Mrs. Mills devoted herself to the Ruby Church of God, where she faithfully taught the children’s and youth Sunday school class for many years. In her later years, she established a meaningful ministry known as the “Prayer Pillow” ministry. Through this initiative, she would embroider pillows with uplifting scriptures for those who were going through challenging times. In her generosity, Mrs. Mills opened a thrift store named the “Sunshine Store,” with all proceeds benefiting her beloved church. This endeavor brought her much joy as she had the opportunity to meet and connect with people. Mrs. Nick also enjoyed sewing, growing and tending to her roses, and spending time with her beloved grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mills was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde L. Mills; daughters, Tammy Mills Zearfoss, and Sylvia Mills Johnson; grandchildren, Cindy & Wendy Mills; great grandchild, Brinlee Alexis Rushing; siblings, Jimmy Morton, Elizabeth “Lib” Watson, Myrtle Mills, and nephew, Scott Morton.
Survivors include her children, Ricky (Linda) Mills of Ruby, SC, Vickie (Mike) Short, and Susie (Warren) Boswell all of Ruby, SC; grandchildren: Kristi Turner, Richie (Vickie) Mills, both of Ruby, SC, Jeremy Rollings of Conway, SC, Alisha (Jasper) Fipps of Cheraw, SC, Stephanie (Derek) Rushing of Jefferson, SC, Stephen (Brianne) Short of Durham, NC, Zach (Shelby) Boswell, and Nick Boswell both of Ruby, SC, Jessica Zearfoss (Norman Leach) of Columbia, SC and Josh (Kristy) Zearfoss of Chesterfield, SC; great grandchildren, Landon, Madison, Bailey, Ella, Rain, Blaine, Weston, Hadleigh, Levi, Kaylee, Everly, Korleigh, Ellie, Stephen and Matthew Leach; and great – great grandchild, Easton.
She is also survived by her siblings, Bobby (Joann) Morton of Polkton, NC, Barbara “Sis” Gibson, and Linda Hurst both of Chesterfield, SC, Vance (Linda) Morton of Ruby, SC, Samp Morton of Chesterfield, SC, Brenda (Tommy) Shaw of Patrick, SC, B.J. (Judy) Morton, and Janis Morton both of Chesterfield, SC, and Billy Morton of Pageland, SC, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

Rufus Randolph ‘RuRu’ Quick
CHERAW – Mr. Rufus Randolph “RuRu” Quick, age 86, passed away at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, at McLeod Health Cheraw. A memorial service was held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at Annointed Word by Rev. Donnie Driggers.
Mr. Quick was born May 28, 1937 in Marlboro County, a son of the late John Wesley and Ida Mae McDougal Quick. He worked in the automobile industry in all capacities as the owner of Quick’s Auto Sales. He gave his life to Christ in January 2002 and was a faithful servant, helping anyone at any time, especially his family. He was a faithful member of Annointed Word, and attended regularly as long as he was able.
His greatest joys in life were spending time with his family. Until he was physically unable, “RuRu” was always available to anyone that needed him. He cooked a delicious pot of salmon stew when the cold weather hit and he delivered bowls to family and friends all winter long.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Quick was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean Cope Quick, in 1997. He was also preceded in death by all of his siblings, Robert Quick, Lloyd Quick, Fletcher Quick, Bo Quick, Walker Quick, Frances Gathings, Roxie Mae Quick and Marie Quick.
Survivors include his daughters, Dianne (Rev. Donnie) Driggers of Cheraw, Theresa Longoria of Cheraw, Joy Stroud of Patrick, Jennifer Olmstead of Cheraw, son, Michael (Jane) Quick of Chapel Hill, NC; grandchildren, Barry (Kristen) Driggers, Ashley (Randy) Vincent, Leslie Quick, Justin Stroud, Matthew Stroud, James Witherspoon, Allyson (Jason) Grissom, Summer Premus, Steven Moss, and Michael (Hanna) Quick; great-grandchildren Londyn and Laney Driggers, Ella Jean and Smith Grissom, Noah and Sullivan Vincent, Dillon Stroud, Bella Palmer, August and Anthony Hinson, Owen, Grady and Ella Witherspoon, Kyia Townsend, Laraun Moultrie, Sophia Moss and Cody Chisholm.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and love to the Gentevia Hospice staff; Dena Sellers, RN and the entire McLeod Health Cheraw staff, including the ER, that served “RuRu” in his final days.
