Angela P. Costello

FLORENCE – ​Mrs. Angela P. Costello, formerly of Hunt’s Mill Road in Chesterfield, entered into rest on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the age of 93. Funeral services were held at 9:00 AM Friday, December 8, 2023 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with burial following in the Old St. Davids’s Cemetery. The family received friends from 4:00 – 6:00 PM Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Costello was born March 8, 1930 in Glendalough, Ireland a daughter of the late Andy and Elizabeth Smyth Nolan. Angela was a homemaker and her passion was caring for her children. Mrs. Costello enjoyed living the quiet country life where she would often work in her yard and her garden.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Costello was also preceded in death by her husband, Brendan Costello.

Survivors include her daughters, Dr. Fiona (Gerald) Nichols of Chesterfield, SC, Dr. Brenda (Dr. Paul) Grabb of Charlottsville, VA, Clare Costello of Florence, SC; grandsons, Declan Grabb of Chicago, IL, Gavin Grabb of Colorado Springs, CO; and sister, Georgina Huntley of Chesterfield, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the McLeod Hospice House of Florence, SC, 1203 E Cheves St. Florence, SC 29506.

Julia Rae Stafford Davis

CHERAW – Mrs. Julia Rae Stafford Davis, age 90, entered into rest on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at her home. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, December 13, 2023 from the chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Reverend Michael Davis, Randall Gainey, and Brent Taylor with a service of committal to follow in the First Southern Methodist Church Cemetery in Cheraw, SC. The family will greet friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Davis was born February 20, 1933 in Cheraw, SC a daughter of the late Harris and Lola Rainwater Stafford. She was a retired employee of Grits and Groceries convenience store and a member of the First Southern Methodist Church in Cheraw. Julia enjoyed watching soap operas and game shows. Mrs. Davis’s favorite place to be was her front porch where she would often relax.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Davis was also preceded in death by her husband, Odis Davis; sisters, Sylvia Polson, Dorothy Harpe, and Malinda Stafford.

Survivors include her children, Reverend Michael (Diane) Davis of Cheraw, SC, Anne (Nathan) Wallace of Cheraw, SC, Randy (Sarah) Boan of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Ashley Huggins, Will (Brittany) Boan, Gracyn (Brad) Williamson, Emily Wallace, Olivia Wallace; great-grandchildren, Destiny Johnson, Riley Huggins, Lily Huggins, Liana Williamson, Liam Williamson, Maddie Boan; brother, Richard (Margaret) Stafford of Cheraw, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dr. William ‘Bill’ Robert Owens

CHERAW – Dr. William Robert Owens, Sr., peacefully departed this life at the age of 68 on November 20, 2023. He was a son of the late Dr. P.W. Owens and Virginia F. Owens. Bill was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cheraw, SC. He cherished the time he spent with his family and friends, he loved to go fishing, watching Sunday afternoon NASCAR races, and was an avid sports fan. Bill was a friend to all that knew him.

Dr. Bill was a graduate of Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic and a member of the South Carolina Chiropractic Association. In 1986, Dr. Bill moved back to Cheraw to work along with his father, Dr. P.W. Owens at Owens Chiropractic. Dr. Bill was a graduate of USC Institute of Government and served 12.5 years on Chesterfield County Council, with 6 years served as Chairman of Chesterfield County Council.

He served on the board of Directors for Pee Dee Council of Governments, served as past Chairman of Eastern Alliance, served on the board of Directors of Northeastern Strategic Alliance (NESA), served on the Board of Directors of Charlotte Regional Partnership, was past Chairman of the Greater Cheraw Chamber of Commerce, past President of Cheraw Kiwanis Club, co-founder and past President of the Cheravian Club, charter member of Cheraw Moose Lodge, served on the Emergency Service Committee of Chesterfield County, co-chaired Cheraw Palmetto Regatta, and was named South Carolina Ambassador for Economic Development in 2003 by Governor Mark Sanford.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 45 years, Suzanne Lomas Owens, and their 2 sons, William Robert Owens, II, of Greenville, SC and Jonathan Ryan Owens, of Cheraw, SC.

Along with his parents listed above, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Alan Owens.

A Celebration of Life will be announced, at a later date.

Addie Mae Sellers

CHERAW – Mrs. Addie Mae Sellers, 98, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023. Born in Cheraw, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Arthur Farmer and Lucy Barfield Farmer. Addie Mae was a member of Cheraw First Baptist Church and was a member of the Friendship Sunday school class. Addie Mae had simple pleasures that brought her happiness. She would often sit on her porch, taking in the beauty of nature while enjoying those peaceful moments. Crossword puzzles were another favorite pastime that challenged her mind and allowed her to unwind. Most of all, Addie Mae loved her son and her grandchildren. She cherished every moment spent with them, finding fulfillment in nurturing their lives and witnessing their growth.

In addition to her parents, Addie Mae was also preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Thad Sellers; brother, Leslie Farmer; sister, Annie Townsend and daughter-in-law, Peggy Sellers.

She is survived by her son, James Sellers of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Luben Sellers (Hanna) of Cheraw, SC, Ashley Jacobs of Cheraw, SC, Richard Thomas of Patrick, SC; and great-grandchildren, Zhady Sellers, Roya Sellers, and Freya Jacobs.

The family received friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Kiser Funeral Home.

A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Cheraw First Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.

Burial followed the service in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, South Carolina.

Kiser Funeral Home has been entrusted to serve the Sellers family during their time of grief.


Martha ‘Jill’ Courtney Watson

PAGELAND – Mrs. Martha “Jill” Courtney Watson, age 71, entered into rest on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at her home with her family by her side. A memorial service was held at 6:00 PM Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Wolf Pond Baptist Church by Pastor Mark Evans and her brother-in-law, Carroll Jenkins. The family greeted friends immediately following the service at the church.

Mrs. Watson was born May 21, 1952 in Monroe, NC a daughter of the late Charles and Emmie Laney Courtney. Mrs. Jill was a faithful member of Wolf Pond Baptist Church. She had a special talent for cooking and no one could make macaroni and cheese as well as she could. Jill had a generous heart and she would share her baked goods with residents at the nursing home as well as family members on their birthdays. Mrs. Watson was known for her sweet demeanor and she could make friends with whomever she met. Above all else, Jill loved her family. She was a caring mother and a best friend to all of her sisters.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Watson was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Watson; brothers, George “Buddy” Courtney, and Tommy Courtney.

Survivors include her daughters, Angela (Mitch) Anderson of Pageland, SC, and Amanda (Dave) Rushing of Matthews, NC; sister and daughter of the heart, Tonie (Tim) Ayers of Pageland, SC; grandchildren, Sydney (Matt Fisher) Anderson, Hunter Anderson, Nathan Rushing, Ava Rushing, Kyle (Felicia) Ayers, Dawson Ayers, Bryce Ayers; great-grandchildren, Jaxson Fisher, Raylan Ayers; sisters, Brenda Harvell, Ann (Tim) Gaddy, Shirley (Jerry) Hatley, Peggy Barwick, Robin (Carroll) Jenkins; brother, Doug (Christa) Courtney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials can be made to the Pageland Fire Department and Pageland Rescue Squad, 111 N. Poplar St. Pageland, SC 29728 or to Wolf Pond Baptist Church, 78 Wolf Pond Church Rd. Pageland, SC 29728.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Pageland Fire & Rescue, CenterWell Home Health, and Via Health Partners for their care that allowed Mrs. Watson to remain in her home throughout her illness.
