Margaret Gulledge Deese

ROBBINSVILLE – Mrs. Margaret Gulledge Deese, age 89, formerly of Ruby, SC, entered into rest on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Graham Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Robbinsville, NC. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 27, 2024 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home with burial following in the Thompson Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Chesterfield, SC. The family greeted friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM Saturday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Deese was born in the Wexford community of Ruby, SC the daughter of the late Leon Alford “Sweet” and Bessie Jane Allen Gulledge. Mrs. Margaret was a former employee of Jones’ Drug Store and retired from Reeves Brothers. A member of Thompson Creek Baptist Church, she lived in the Wexford community for most of her life before moving to the mountains to be with her daughter. Mrs. Deese was a natural caretaker who devoted many years to caring for her parents. She loved her family and she took pride in helping raise her grandchildren. Margaret enjoyed being outdoors in her garden. Mrs. Deese loved reading her bible and she always kept it close by, even when her eyesight no longer allowed her to read it.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Deese was also preceded in death by her children, Mickey Short, Jerry Sanders, Peggy Hatcher; brothers, Leon A. Gulledge, Jr., Alan Gulledge, and Wayne Gulledge.

Survivors include her daughter, Ramona (Butch) Posey of Robbinsville, NC; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack ‘Chip’ Gibbons Thomas Jr.

CHERAW – Jack “Chip” Thomas, 69, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.  Born, February 7, 1955, in Laurinburg, NC he was a son of the late Jack and Patricia Ann Hinson Thomas of Chesterfield, SC. He was “The Gas Man” to many locals and “The Concrete Man” to others, serving around 15 years at Cheraw Gas Company and around 30 years as a dispatcher at Furr Redi mix and Warden and Smith.

Along with his parents, listed above, he was preceded in death his baby brother, Michael Thomas of Chesterfield, SC, and his beloved niece, Melanie Thomas of Cheraw, SC.

Chip leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 50 years, Sheila Campbell Thomas Cheraw, SC; his doting daughter, Jessica Clinkscales and son-in-law, Timothy Clinkscales; his three grandchildren, Rain Rivers, Lake Clinkscales, and Dax Clinkscales; his beloved brother, David Thomas and sister-in-law, Kay Thomas; beloved nephew, David Thomas, Jr.; brother-in-law, Earl Campbell and Kelly Fisher; and two dear friends, Tom Curtis of Asheville, NC, and Tommy Davidson of Cheraw, SC.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Maranatha Family Center in Cheraw, SC.

The family received friends, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Chip’s home, 3957 W. Market Street Ext., Cheraw, SC 29520.
