William Evans Green

Funeral services for William Evans Green were held Wednesday November 13, 2024 at the G.W. Long Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cheraw, South Carolina. Burial followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Green died Wednesday, November 6th at McLeod Hospital in Cheraw. He was 76.

William, son of the late Mrs. Carrie Mae Cox and Mr. James Green was born in Bennettsville, South Carolina on April 13, 1948. He attended the public schools of Marlboro County and graduated from East Side High School in Bennettsville.

He went to work at Emerson Electric working his way to a supervisory role. He also worked for Poole Trucking out of Spartanburg, South Carolina. Later he worked for Snyder, East Coast, FedEx, and H & H Trucking.

William was united in Holy Matrimony to Grace Harrington and to this union 4 children were born. Later in life, he married Carolyn C. Cole.

Always looking for a new challenge, William tried his hand at riding a motorcycle, doing home repairs, painting homes, plumbing, growing a garden, and even riding horses with The 4 Horsemen and The Knight Riders. William considered himself a comedian, singer, a disc jockey called Slinky T, and an all-around entertainer. He loved music and singing.  He, his friends and family formed a band called the Soul Tabulations. He usually kept the people around him laughing.

His final and greatest passion was running the College Inn Restaurant in Cheraw where he loved to serve Bar-B-Q Ribs, Barbecue, wings, and chitterlings to name a few items.

William was predeceased by his parents, James and Carrie Green, and one brother, Rodrick Green. Ironically, William and his oldest brother James Edward (Eddie) Green died a day apart with Eddie dying on Thursday.

Many fond and happy memories are shared by Carolyn Green, his wife; children Anthony (wife Lorrine) Green of Bennettsville; Tracy (husband Alvin) Harrington of Wallace, SC; Mandrell (wife Noemi) Green of Cheraw; Angela (husband Kenya) Hayes of Deatsville, Alabama; his grandchildren, Lyntrvon Green, JaQuana Thomas, A’sha Green, Nay’Toniyan Green, Mandrell Green, Jr., Kareem Harris, Kadeem Harris, Keyaria Harris, Jakalia Green, Jaylen Green, Daniel Green, Makalia Green, Elijah Green, Xavier Green, Isaiah Green, and Eliana Green; 10 great-grands; brothers Ray (Lorene) Green, Cheraw; Steve (Diane) Green, Wake Forest, NC; Michael Green, Bennettsville; a sister, Christa Green, Bennettsville; uncle, Mr. Preston Williams, Bennettsville; aunt, Ms. Mary Freeman, Fayetteville, NC; and many other cousins, relatives, and friends.

The Green Family entrusted Morris Funeral Cottage and St. Joseph’s Cemetery of Cheraw with Mr. Green’s services.

Richard Lee Whittemore

CHERAW – Richard Lee Whittemore, died on Monday, December 2, 2024, at the age of 71. Born in Binghamton, NY, he was a son of the late Cecilia Hanifin and Earl Clifford Whittemore, Jr.

Richard dedicated over 25 years of his career to the Schaeffler Group, where he worked as a machinist and made lasting contributions to the company. His professional life was marked by dedication and pride in his work.

In his personal life, Richard found joy in the simple pleasures—whether it was immersing himself in a good novel or spending quiet afternoons fishing along the banks of the Great Pee Dee River. He cherished these moments of solitude and tranquility.

Richard’s legacy lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Peggy Whittemore; a son, Earl Clifford (Sara) Whittemore IV, of Durham, NC; a daughter, Brandy Lee Cooley, of Largo, FL; as well as his brothers, Thomas Whittemore of Jamestown, NY, and Earl Whittemore III of Gulfport, MS; his sister, Dee Turan of Saucier, MS; and his treasured grandchildren, Angel Hilson, Jasper Hurd, and Sorin Whittemore.

A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date to honor Richard’s memory and celebrate the impact he had on the lives of those who loved him.

Richard will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
