Fredrick Ora ‘Fred’ Hatter

Mr. Fredrick Ora “Fred” Hatter, affectionately known as “Papa”, age 81, passed away on December 9, 2024. At this time, there are no formal services planned.

Born on February 14, 1943, in Champaign, IL, he was a son of the late Fredrick and Helen Evert Hatter. A proud U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Hatter served with the 73rd Airborne Division, “Screaming Eagles,” dedicating 18 years to military service. He later retired as a blueprint specialist with Dean’s Superior Blueprint in Champaign, IL.

Fred enjoyed quiet days filled with watching television, snacking, and taking naps. He found pleasure in playing cards and games, including flight simulator. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and relaxing on the porch. Above all, Fred treasured the time spent with his beloved wife, Sylvia, and his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hatter was preceded in death by his first wife, Lynda Hatter; his brother, Duane Arthur Hatter; brothers-in-law, George James and Robert Garcia; and his twin sons.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Hatter; his children, Dana Jenkins of Mansfield, IL, Michelle (Gary Dawkins) Walters of Patrick, SC, Daniel Walters of the home, Leslie Walters of Chesterfield, SC, and April Walters (Thomas Ray) Joplin of Society Hill, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Joshua Williams, Matthew Williams, Dalton Walters, Amber Moss, Brianna Freeman, Aaron Freeman, Jessie Joplin, and Madison Joplin (affectionately known as “Papa’s princess”), as well as great-grandchildren Alaina Freeman, Paislee Freeman, and Lily Moss. His siblings, Fern Garcia of Mesa, AZ, Daniel (Patricia) Hatter of Tolono, IL, Karen (Rev. Dennis) Skinner of Normal, IL; sister-in-law, Joan Weatherford; and special friend, Carolyn Player (Richard Joplin) also survive him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MRC Funeral Home, located at 318 E. Main St., Chesterfield, SC 29709, to assist the family during this time.

Elizabeth Jane Kiser

CHERAW – Elizabeth Jane Kiser, 91, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. She was born on June 22, 1933, in Surgoinsville, TN, to the late Willard Neal and Tula Evelyn Barker Bellamy.

Jane was a devoted member of Cheraw First Baptist Church, where she actively participated in the Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) and contributed to the Youth Program, as well as serving in the nursery for over 20 years. Following her career as a secretary in an optometrist office, she continued to make a significant impact in the community by working at Kiser Funeral Home, where her compassion and dedication helped support numerous families over the years. Her contributions were instrumental in shaping the warm and supportive environment of the funeral home.

In her personal life, Jane had a passion for crocheting and smocking, and she was known for her exceptional cooking skills, particularly her famous bread, affectionately earning her the title of the “Bread Lady.” Above all, Jane cherished her family, and the time spent with them.

Along with her parents, listed above, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 64 years, Bob Kiser, her sisters, Mary Saul, Joann Haynes, Barbara Penley, and Evelyn Carter.

Mrs. Jane leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, Kip Kiser (Janice) of Chesterfield, SC; a daughter, Kathy Kiser Brown (Bill) of Wasilla, AK; grandchildren, Ashley Brown, Adam Brown, Andrew Brown, Rachel McGee, and Graham Kiser; and ten great-grandchildren.

The family received friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw, SC.

A graveside service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens in Cheraw, SC.

Wilson Barney Polson

CHESTERFIELD – Mr. Wilson Barney Polson, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home on December 10, 2024. A funeral service was held on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Pine Grove Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Mark Phillips and Reverend David Lee. Following the service, he was laid to rest in the church cemetery with masonic rites being rendered by Ruby Masonic Lodge #314. The family received friends on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Born on July 19, 1945, in Chesterfield, SC, Wilson was the son of the late Wilson Robert Polson and Nealie Brown Polson McLain. He dedicated over 43 years of service to Highland Industries before retiring. A member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, Wilson was also lifetime member of Ruby Masonic Lodge #314.

Known for his outgoing personality and engaging storytelling, Wilson had the remarkable ability to connect with others, never meeting a stranger. He enjoyed time spent hunting and fishing, often found riding his lawnmower or nurturing his prized hibiscus flowers. However, his greatest joy came from being “Pa Pa” to his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his siblings: Billy R. Polson, Jerald Wiley Polson, Kathy Odessa Polson, Peggy P. Wallace, and Bonnie P. Gibson.

Wilson is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Linda Burr Polson; their sons, Tommy (Lisa) Polson of Ruby, SC, and Tim (Rebecca) Polson of Chesterfield, SC; and his cherished grandchildren, Bailey (Victoria) Polson of Lexington, SC, Brianna Lee Polson of Ruby, SC, and Bella Elizabeth Polson of Chesterfield, SC. He also leaves behind brothers-in-law Jimmy (Sheila) Gibson, Jerry (Vickie) Burr, and Sonny (Suzane) Burr; special friends, Ronnie & Peggy Davis, and Kendall & Helen Moore; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thanks is given to hospice nurse, Madison Sellers and aide, Hannah Williams and the entire staff of Gentiva Hospice of Chesterfield for the extraordinary care and support they provided.

Gary W. Quick

BENNETTSVILLE – Mr. Gary Wilson Quick, 52, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, He was born on August 10, 1972, in Bennettsville, SC, to the late Wesley and Martha Milligan Quick.

Gary was an accomplished athlete, playing football at Marlboro County High School. He had a deep passion for classic cars and trucks, with a particular fondness for the 1969 Camaro, which he often regarded as his dream car. In addition to his love for automobiles, Gary enjoyed fishing in local creeks and ponds, and he was known for his exceptional skills as a master welder. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his nieces and nephews, who were a significant part of his life.

He is survived by his brother, Larry Quick of Jefferson, SC, and his beloved nieces and nephews: Ryleigh Quick, Emma Quick, and Michael Quick, along with a wide circle of friends.

At this time, no services are scheduled. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions to a charity of one’s choice.

Dianne Watson Sellers

CHESTERFIELD – Mrs. Dianne Watson Sellers, age 74, peacefully entered into rest on December 11, 2024 with her husband, Danny Sellers and family members by her side. A Celebration of Life service was held at 5:00 PM, Friday, December 13, 2024 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Brent Taylor. The family greeted friends from 4:00 – 5:00 PM Friday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Dianne was born July 11, 1950 to the late Julian R. Watson, Sr. and Ola B. Watson. She graduated from Chesterfield High School in 1969, attended Cosmetology School in Columbia, SC, worked at Chesterfield 5 & 10 for the majority of her life and eventually retired from working for the Chesterfield County School District.

Known for her love of baking wedding cakes, catering events, making floral arrangements and craft painting, she loved her many nieces and nephews.

Dianne is survived by her husband, Danny Sellers, his son Ryan (Tina) Sellers. Her brother, Julian R. Watson, Jr. (Barbara), brother, Harold (Debbie) Watson, sister, Cynthia Hayes, and brother, Robert Watson. Nieces and nephews, Rebecca (Steve) Bertok, daughter Marilyn Bertok, J. Adam Watson and sons Seth and Julian, Megan (Jack) O’Connor, Jennifer (Brett) Upshaw and sons Lincoln and River, Andrew Watson and daughters Eliza and Margot, Ashley Watson. Jeremy (Jessica) Shuford, and daughter Charlotte, Patrick Shuford.
