Betty Treadaway Canipe
MORVEN, N.C. – On Friday, December 13, 2024, Mrs. Betty Treadaway Canipe, 94, passed away peacefully at Richmond County Hospice Haven in Rockingham with her family at her bedside.
Services were held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 17, 2024, by the graveside in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in McFarlan with Rev. Keith Stewart officiating.
The family greeted friends following the service at the cemetery.
Betty was born November 15, 1930, in Anson County, NC and was a daughter of the late Randolph Treadaway and the late Elsie May Greene Treadaway. She was a graduate of Wadesboro High School and Pfieffer Junior College. Following graduation from Pfeiffer, she enrolled in Presbyterian School of Nursing in Charlotte where she received a degree as a Registered Nurse.
She worked in nursing for more than 30 years with most of that time spent at Chesterfield General Hospital in Cheraw, SC and Anson County Hospital in Wadesboro. Her nursing career not only was in hospitals, she also worked for a period of time as plant nurse in manufacturing plants in the area, private duty and home care situations. Her nursing was also a gift to others in her community.
Betty was long-time member of First United Methodist Church, Cheraw, SC and very active in the United Methodist Women.
She dearly loved her family and especially time shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed decorating her home for all seasons and special occasions. Watching and feeding the birds and having plants and beautiful flowers were other favorites of hers.
Those who are left to cherish her memory are her daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Clay Williams of Florence, SC, Susan Canipe of Morven and Beth and Barry Ricketts of Southern Pines; her grandchildren, Callie Huneycutt and husband, Greg of Pinehurst and Michael Ricketts and wife, Ashlyn of Vass and her great-grandchildren, Merritt Jane Huneycutt and Andie Paige Huneycutt.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Harding “Jim” Canipe and by her brothers, Harry Treadaway and Bill Treadaway.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 117 Third St., Cheraw, SC 29520 or to Hospice Haven at Richmond County Hospice, 1119 N US 1 HWY, Rockingham, NC 28379.

Larry Wayne Courtney
PAGELAND – Larry Wayne Courtney of Pageland, SC went to his heavenly home on Sunday December 15th 2024 while surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 28th, 1951 in Monroe, North Carolina, Larry was the son of George and Arvie Courtney of Monroe, NC. Larry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be missed dearly by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Linda D Courtney, Sonya C Sims (Brian) of Lancaster, SC, Sundi C Gonzales (Grady) of Rock Hill, SC, and Luther Hampton Deese (Renee) of Pageland, SC His legacy of love and compassion continues through his grandchildren, Courtney Sims Harvell (Patrick), Cami Rae Sims (Kevin), Grasun Elliott Gonzales, Gunnar Wayne Gonzales, Lucas Hampton Deese, Garrett Bob Deese, and Samuel Jay Deese. He is also survived by his parents George and Arvie Courtney of Monroe, NC along with his brothers Dennis Courtney (Denise) of Monroe, NC and Roger Courtney of Myrtle Beach, SC along with several nieces and nephews. Larry was an entrepreneur of many successful businesses while taking various leadership roles within the community. Larry was part of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He was also a member of Sandhill Shrine Club where he spearheaded fundraising efforts for Shriner’s Hospital. He was a member and past President of the Bob Causey School Masters Invitational Board where he was awarded the Nelson Perry Award. He was an active and devoted member of High Point Baptist Church where he was laid to rest on Friday, December 20th 2024 at 3:15 pm. The family received friends prior to the service at High Point Baptist Family Life Center at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to High Point Baptist Church of Pageland, SC. Mary Troutman Evans
CHERAW – Mary Troutman Evans, 73, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024. Born, January 28, 1951, in Statesville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Harold and Eva Catherine Jones Troutman.
Mary dedicated many years of her life to teaching as a K-4 instructor at the First United Methodist Church Daycare in Cheraw, where she touched the lives of countless children and families. After a fulfilling career, she cherished her retirement, often spending time at the beach and enjoying beach music. Her vibrant spirit was evident through her membership in the Parrot Head Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Eva Catherine Jones Troutman and father, Joseph Harold Troutman.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 51 years, Benny Reese Evans of the home; a son, Brian Evans of Okeechobee, FL; a daughter, Catherine Monnin (Dan) of Kansas City, MO; brothers, Joseph “Joe” Harold Troutman, III of Statesville, NC, and Kenneth “Ken” Ashley Troutman of Simpsonville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw, SC.

Selma F. Edwards Jacob
CHERAW – Selma Freeman Edwards Jacob, 80, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024. Born, July 14, 1944, in Darlington, SC, she was a daughter of the late Laron and Geneva Hall Freeman.
A devoted lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Selma was deeply committed to her faith and the well-being of those around her. She consistently engaged in scripture reading, finding joy in sharing her insights with others. Selma took great pleasure in gardening, often tending to her cherished flowers, and she relished family gatherings, creating lasting memories with her family and friends. Known for her impeccable style, she always presented herself beautifully and took pride in her appearances.
Selma was preceded in death by her mother Geneva Hall Freeman and her father Laron Freeman, and the father of her four children, Bobby Eugene Edwards.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Karl F. Jacob, of the home; a son, Bobby Dean Edwards (Tammy) of Darlington, SC; daughters, Sheila Edwards Moskal (Troy), Michelle Edwards Wright (Dion), and Melissa Edwards Roscoe (Bobby) all of Cheraw, SC; brothers, Lloyd Freeman of Raleigh, NC, Larry Freeman and Craig Freeman both of Cheraw, SC; sisters, Tena Freeman Edwards and Darlene Freeman Wallace both of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Brandi Schoen (Adam), Sierrika Sutton (Randolph), Justin Walls, Kyzer Wright (Fallon), Jonathan Walls, Alyssa Edwards, Savannah Jackson (Hayden), Laural Edwards, Kami Walls, Bree Roscoe, Hunter Munn (McKenzie), and Rayne Todd (Caleb); great-grandchildren, Tinzlee Sutton, Tyree Lindsay, Blazlee Sutton, Sarah Walls, AJ Schoen, Dahlia Riggs, Phoenix Riggs, Adalyn Jackson, Mia Wright, Ellerie Jackson, and Harper Munn.
A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Cheraw, SC. Burial followed in the LDS Cemetery in Society Hill, SC.
The family received friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. just prior to the service at the Church.

David Marcus Turnage
CHERAW – David Marcus Turnage, age 65, passed away on December 18, 2024. He was born on July 4, 1959, in Rockingham, NC, to Peggy Ann Hatcher Turnage and the late Ted Keith Turnage.
David had a deep appreciation for the past, demonstrated by his passion for restoring old items, particularly watches. Known for his wonderful sense of humor, he cherished helping others and was often seen spending quality time with his mother, Peggy. Their bond was so strong that they were seldom apart, frequently seen together at various community outings. David also enjoyed collecting arrowheads, working meticulously in his shop with his tools, and exploring yard sales and thrift stores.
David was preceded in death by his dad, Ted Turnage and a brother, Ted Keith Turnage.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his mom, Peggy Turnage of the home; a daughter, Kaitlyn Bryant of Bennettsville, SC; a brother, Darrel Turnage of Cheraw, SC; sisters, Lori Wise and Lisa Cline both of Cheraw, SC; and his dog MoJo, who followed him all the time.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Agape Hospice for the compassionate care provided to David and the support extended to the family during his illness. Their dedication and kindness made a significant impact during this challenging time.
The family received friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Kiser Funeral Home.
