Nancy King Haney

PATRICK – Nancy King Haney, aged 77, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025. Born in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late C.C. and Viola Boan King and the widow of Cecil Hewitt Haney.

Nancy had a passion for the simpler pleasures in life, often found enjoying cooking shows and tending to her beloved yard. She had a distinct love for collecting various items, with a special fondness for seashells, angels, and salt and pepper shakers. Above all, she valued her family deeply, and her son Jason held a special place in her heart.

She is survived by her son Jason Haney, daughters Teresa Ammons of Cheraw, SC, and Darline Knight of Como, MS, as well as her brother Calvin King of Cheraw, SC, and sisters Louon Causey of Conway, SC, Lucy Kelly of Hartsville, SC, and Doris Gore of Cheraw, SC. Nancy was also blessed with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who will cherish her memory.

The family will honor Nancy’s life with a private memorial service at a later date. Her spirit and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Warren J. “Jerry” Sands

CHESTERFIELD – Mr. Warren J. “Jerry” Sands, age 68, entered into rest on Friday, February 7, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at the Chesterfield Church of God by Pastor Michael Davis and Rev. Jerry McManus. The family will greet friends from 12:00 – 1:00 PM Saturday prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Sands was born August 9, 1956 in Greensboro, NC. He was a son of the late Warren Gerald Sands and Marie Williams Sands Gaither. Mr. Sands was the owner of Sands Heating and Air at Ocean Isles Beach, NC. Jerry was a car enthusiast who enjoyed working on old cars. He also enjoyed watching the classics, especially westerns. Mr. Sands was an outdoorsman who liked farming, fishing, and target shooting. Most of all, Jerry loved spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sands was preceded in death by his siblings, Bobby Sands, Ted Sands, Doug Gaither, Patti Sands, Judy Gaither, and Shirley Gaither.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Marsha Sands of the home; children, Laura Horne of Chesterfield, SC, Joshua Sands of Chesterfield, SC, Stefanie (Andy) Farmer of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Owyn, Clara; siblings, Timothy Sands, Dennis Gaither, Joe Gaither, Dean Gaither, Denise Tilley, Dedi Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Gentiva Hospice for their exceptional care of Mr. Jerry.

Susan Stalnaker Wheeler

CHERAW – Susan Stalnaker Wheeler, aged 72, passed away on February 5, 2025. She was born on August 6, 1952, in Alexandria, VA, to the late William Bevil and Jean Dougel Anderson Stalnaker.

Susan had a distinguished career, serving as the Regional Sales Director at the Carrier Corporation before her retirement. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Longwood University, where she was an active member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. Over the years, she was honored with the National Endowment for the Arts Apprenticeship and the Penland School of Crafts Endowment, reflecting her deep passion for art and ceramics.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Susan had a profound appreciation for Virginia and South Carolina History and was an avid collector of pottery and antiques.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William B. Stalnaker and Jean Anderson Stalnaker.

Susan leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 46 years, Joseph Carter Wheeler; a nephew, Mark C. Wheeler (Katherine) of Simpsonville, SC; a niece, Jennifer W. Dennis (Charles) of Virginia Beach, VA; a brother, Jamie A. Stalnaker (Peggy) of Washington, D.C.; and a sister-in-law, Anne Wheeler of Powhatan, VA.

A memorial service will be held at Old St. David’s Episcopal Church in Cheraw at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Purple Crusaders to end Alzheimer’s, PO BOX 493, Cheraw, SC 29520.
