Willa P. Griggs
WALLACE – Willa P. Griggs, 70, of Wallace, SC, passed away on March 3, 2025. Born on September 1, 1954, in Laurinburg, NC, she was the daughter of the late William James and Betty Jo Edwards Patton.
Willa was known for her love of shopping, camping, and boating, as well as her fondness for the beach and dining out. Above all, she was a devoted caregiver to her son, Joshua, for many years.
Along with her parents, listed above, Willa was preceded in death by her sons, Joshua Ingram and William Jason Ingram.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, John Travis Ingram (Barbara) of Wallace, SC; a brother, Jimmy Patton (Karan) of Maxton, NC; sisters, Sherry P. Woodard (Dave) of Newport News, VA and Julie L. Patton of Lumberton, NC; grandchildren, Emma Ingram, Haley Ingram, Bethany Yarboro, Leigha Turner, and 2 grandsons; a daughter-in-law, Tamika Walker of Cheraw, SC, and her former husband, Mike Griggs of Bennettsville, SC.
A memorial service will be planned and announced at a later date.
Kiser Funeral Home has been entrusted to serve the Griggs family in their time of grief.

Jay Lewis Hughes
CHERAW – Mr. Jay Lewis Hughes, 88, died on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Born on February 9, 1937 in Banner Elk, NC. He was the son of the late William Ed Hughes and Nellie Benfield Hughes.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Miriam “Frankie” Hughes of the home, daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Dino Pacifici of Charlotte, NC, grandsons, Matthew Pacifici of New York City, NY, and Nicholas Pacifici of Charlotte, NC.
Mr. Hughes business was in the paper and packaging industry. He spent 40 years with his business partner, Sam B. Woods as President of Anchor Paper Company. Mr. Hughes was also an officer with Bay Development Corporation and Anchor Trading Corporation. Over the years, time was spent serving on various civic boards. He served in the US Marine Corps as well.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.

Darrel Turnage
CHERAW – Darrel Edward Turnage, 63, peacefully passed away on March 5, 2025. He was born on June 17, 1961, in Rockingham, NC, to Peggy Hatcher Turnage and the late Ted Keith Turnage.
Darrel had a passion for yard work and was skilled in working on lawn mowers. He enjoyed antiquing and visiting flea markets, where he sought out unique pieces of old furniture and jewelry. One of Darrel’s greatest joys was spending time with his family, particularly his nieces and nephews, as well as his beloved dog, Diva.
In addition to his father, Darrel was preceded in death by his brothers, Ted Keith Turnage, Jr. and David Marcus Turnage.
He is survived by his devoted mother, Peggy Hatcher Turnage of Cheraw, SC; his sisters Lori Wise (Kenny) and Lisa Cline (Cliff), both of Cheraw, SC; several nieces and nephews; and one great niece and one great nephew. Darrel also leaves behind a special friend, Andrea Knight.
Family and friends were invited to gather for visitation on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw, SC.

Mrs. Mary River Williams
Mrs. Mary River Williams was born on June 6, 1951 to the late Junita (Edward) River and Henry Nicholson in Richmond County, North Carolina. She entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at the Rehab Center in Cheraw, South Carolina.
Mary was educated in the Richmond County Public Schools and graduated from Leak Street High School. She worked for many years at Takata as an inspector and The Council of Aging in Chesterfield, S.C. She was a devoted member of the St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church in Rockingham, North Carolina where she was a member of the young adult choir, head of the youth department, Usher Board and served as a Sunday School teacher for many years until her health failed. Mary was loved by many and will be truly missed.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father, step-father and her brother, Jeremiah Greer.
Mary leaves to cherish her memories: her husband of 56 years, Nelson Williams; her two sons, Nelson Williams II, (Jessica) of Chesterfield VA and Jeremy Williams of Winston-Salem, NC; six grand children; one brother-in-law, Frank (Jeanie) Williams; godson, Dimitri Thomas; special cousins Patricia Thomas, Olivia Thomas, Rosetta Bell, Cornell and Shawton Thomas and a host of uncles, aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
