Elmer Ray Wallace Sr.

CHESTERFIELD — Elmer Ray Wallace, Sr., age 88, entered into rest on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 6, 2025 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Dr. Lindsay Powell and Brent Taylor with burial following in the Lower Macedonia Memorial Gardens. The family greeted friends from 1:30 – 3:00 PM Sunday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Born on January 25, 1937, in Cheraw, SC, Mr. Wallace was the son of the late Elijah Clifton Wallace and Millie Knight Wallace. He dedicated over 48 years to Delta Mills before continuing his service with Chesterfield County Rural Water Company for an additional 14 years post-retirement. Elmer enjoyed faithfully attending Lower Macedonia Baptist Church with his family.

A man with a strong work ethic, Elmer began working at the young age of 8 and worked until his last day. He could usually be found working on the farm, bush hogging, baling hay, caring for his cows, or simply finding something to piddle on. He was known for his remarkable memory and could tell you where each tool, bolt, and screw were to be located in each of his buildings. In his later years, he occasionally may be found sitting in his favorite chair under the carport. A man whose word was his bond, Elmer will be fondly remembered as a man of integrity and character.

In addition to his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by his beloved sisters: Ruth W. Watts, Virgie W. Wallace, Area W. Hyatt, Edell W. Boone, and Icyean Wallace, as well as his great-grandson, Matthew Baker.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Sylvia Boatwright Wallace; his son, Elmer “Ray” (Amy) Wallace, Jr. of Chesterfield, SC; daughters Christine (Tim) Scott of Chesterfield, SC, and Rebecca (Mark) Baker of Anderson, SC; grandchildren Elizabeth (Zach) Gunnels, Makayla (Payne) Palmer, Michael (Molly) Baker, Marissa Scott, and Rayleigh Wallace; great-grandchildren Bennett Gunnels, Baker Gunnels, and Noah Palmer; and his brother Harrison (Joyce) Wallace of Cheraw, SC, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lower Macedonia Baptist Church “Building Fund,” located at 5267 Teals Mill Road, Chesterfield, SC 29709.
